| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Geography is located within the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department serves the University by providing instruction and research in the field of Geography. The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree, and three (3) minor programs for undergraduates; a minor in Geography, a minor in Geographic Information Sciences (
GIS), and a minor in Environmental Sciences. Graduate degrees include a Ph.D. in Geography, an M.A. in Geography, and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science (
GIS). The Department has twenty-one (21) full-time faculty, one (1) teaching associate professor, and five (5) staff. The Department is unique in that it straddles the line between the Social and Physical Sciences. Our faculty enjoy affiliations with the Carolina Population Center, the Department of Epidemiology, the Center for Galapagos Studies, the Department of Environmental Sciences, and the Sheps Center for Health Services Research. A federally funded research center, the Southeast Regional Climate Center, is housed in the Department of Geography. This is one of six (6) regional climate centers around the country funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Center has been housed in the Department for 15 years. |
| Position Summary |
This position will entail managing and updating the Landback Abolition Project website. This position will research archival materials on Native student history at
UNC-Chapel Hill, including oral history research and writing. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
| Management Preferences |
Experience with website design Oral history project experience.
*Prior experience working on Native issues and with Native students. |
