Job Description

Purpose: To support the design, development, and improvement of tooling used in precision mold and manufacturing operations, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and detailing of injection molds, mold components, and tooling assemblies using CAD software.

  • Support revisions, engineering changes, and updates to existing production tooling.

  • Create and update detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs).

  • Collaborate closely with toolmakers, CNC machinists, and manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.

  • Participate in mold design reviews and manufacturability discussions.

  • Assist in troubleshooting mold performance issues such as wear, flashing, venting, cooling, or dimensional concerns.

  • Maintain organized engineering documentation and revision control within internal systems.

Project Opportunities:

The intern will lead or support at least one focused improvement project, which may include:

  • Assist in the design of new injection molds from concept through build.

  • Support the redesign efforts to improve mold longevity, reduce downtime, or enhance part quality.

  • Participate in root cause analysis of mold failures or production issues.

  • Contribute to cycle-time reduction or tooling cost-reduction initiatives.

  • Help standardize mold components or documentation practices across programs.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.

  • Basic knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of engineering fundamentals.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk the production floor for extended periods.

  • Ability to wear required PPE (steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, etc.).

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and temperature variation.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
