Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Clinical Nursing Supervisor to support and strengthen our nursing team. This role operates under the direction of the Nurse Managers and serves as an onsite clinical leader, providing daily guidance, mentorship, and support to nursing staff across the clinic.

The Clinical Nursing Supervisor maintains an active clinical presence working sidebyside with the nurses they supervise, while also performing key administrative and leadership responsibilities. This combination ensures continuity of care, consistent clinical standards, and realtime problem solving for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Our goal is for each Nursing Supervisor to have approximately 20 nurses reporting directly to them; however, may adjust as necessary based on circumstances and needs.
  • Education of employees who report to you. This education will come from Director, Managers, ILCC Nurse Educator, from practice changes, and from group meetings. Responsible for getting education to all nurses in your group. Responsible for follow up and making sure concepts, procedures, skills, etc. are understood, followed, and maintained. Nurse Educator is responsible for documentation of education.
  • Work with Manager(s) and ILCC Nurse Educator to develop and implement tailored education based on individual nurse's needs.
  • Participate in training and mentoring new nurses during orientation and beyond.
  • Assist with tasks in WorkDay such as disciplines, evaluations, and/or timecards if needed, etc.
  • Be available to nurses in your group who have clinical or practice related questions. Goal is to answer, "in the moment".
  • Willing to be present in satellite clinics in your area 1-3 times per week. Work as team nurse, treatment nurse, charge nurse, or float nurse as needed.
  • Work with Director of Nursing and Manager(s) to complete evaluations and participate in evaluations of employees in your group.
  • Coach and mentor new nurses until comfortable and competent in emergency situations. Go over and "recap" after emergency situations, making sure everyone understood all actions and outcomes.
  • Ensure crash carts at clinics are checked and stocked properly, sending completed forms back to managers in Peoria.
  • Perform Clinic audits at least monthly or when visiting a new clinic.
  • Perform Desk RN audits on their assigned Team Nurses at least monthly.
  • Ensure that all of our policies and procedures are being followed at all times. It is their responsibility to help enforce these policies and procedures and report back to Nursing Management if they see anyone not complying.
  • Responsible for any coaching and discipline for the Nurses who report to them, with the assistance of the Nurse Managers.
  • Take on any special projects as assigned by Manager(s).
  • Perform all other duties as requested or required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

OCN Certified (or intent to pursue within timeframe of certification requirements.) Registered Nurse with previous management/supervisory experience or at least two years at Illinois Cancer Care. Must be willing to travel to satellite clinics as needed. Ability to think critically and troubleshoot problems. Positive attitude and desire to help fellow nurses succeed in their roles.

TRAINING AND LICENSURE REQUIRED

Registered nurse in state of Illinois. OCN certification required.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work on a desktop computer for extended periods of time. May require working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, chemotherapy, biohazardous specimens & wastes and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and patient care tasks as directed. Skill in identifying patient problems and assessing under the supervision of a registered nurse. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to react calmly in emergency situations. Strong oral and written communication skills.
