Work hours can be flexible, but aiming to work 8-10 hours a week, with some hours during standard NKU business hours (M-F, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm). Potential to expand these hours, based on library need and individual's performance.
Job Description
The Steely Library Communication & Design Student Assistant is responsible for helping to communicate information with our NKU campus community through social media, physical flyers, news stories, and other digital content. This student assistant will report to the library's Associate Dean and will help create content to share information about the library's services, events, and overall, raise awareness about the library to our student audience.
This position can start at the end of April or beginning of May and will continue over the summer and throughout the upcoming academic year. For the duration of the fall 2026 semester and part of the spring 2027 semester, Steely Library will be located in Landrum due to HVAC construction happening in the building.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Creating and posting content to our library's social media profiles, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Co-designing a strategy for growing engagement and followers, particularly on Instagram.
  • Designing flyers and other graphics to promote library services and events, aligned with Steely Library's and NKU's branding.
  • Taking pictures (and potentially video footage) during library events, to be used in future promotional posts or our yearly Library Impact Report.
  • Write news stories to help share the library story with the campus community.
  • Other projects, as assigned, help with communicating information about the library to NKU students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate NKU student for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently once work has been assigned.
  • Experience with or interest in learning design platforms such as Canva, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Interest in social media trends (particularly Instagram and LinkedIn) and how to engage with online users.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience using design platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.
  • Experience managing a social media account for an organization or group.

Minimum Education Some College
Pay Rate $10/hr
