Job Summary

The Environmental Science Tech collects, prepares, and/or analyzes scientific /environmental samples or data to support environmental/engineering programs, studies and analyses. Receives and / or collects routine or special scientific/environmental samples to be analyzed. Operates, calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs various pieces of equipment. Maintains warehouse stock items and manages inventory through Duke software systems.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain warehouse inventory for the scientific labs located in Building 7405. Perform yearly inventories of stock items. Use Duke software to track and maintain appropriate levels of laboratory supplies.
  • Support section and departmental administrative and development functions including special projects and assignments, employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Environmental Science Tech I

  • Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or other related technical degree.
  • In lieu of associate's degree, High School/GED and 2 years' related work experience

Environmental Science Tech II

  • Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or other related technical degree.
  • 2 years related work experience
  • In lieu of associate's degree and 2 years' experience, High School/GED and 4 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft software products.
  • Experience with inventory stocking and ordering of supplies.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in either a laboratory or other technical setting.
  • Concept or knowledge of environmental and/or health and safety regulatory compliance requirements, analytical chemistry methodologies, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles
  • General technical skills and environmental knowledge in relevant subject areas (air/water/waste/natural resources)
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
Working Conditions
  • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
