Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

This position is responsible for providing attorneys in the Probate Practice litigation support. Those tasks include creation of pleadings, overseeing docketing, and coordinating the with Public Fiduciary's Office to obtain documents and prioritize matters.

We Require

  • An associate's degree in paralegal studies or legal assistance, or related field + 2 years of legal support or related experience

  • A paralegal certificate will substitute for the associate's degree

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Valid AZ Driver's License at time of hire

  • The incumbent in this position will be responsible for any annual compliance requirements imposed by the State Bar of Arizona and certifying authority

  • Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass a criminal background check. MCAO is also authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and before placement

Job Contributions

  • Assist attorneys with court proceeding, and trial preparation, including preparation of witness summaries, organization of exhibits, securing evidence and documentation, deposition abstracts, subpoenas and witness notifications

  • Assist attorneys in compiling annotations, indexes and provisions of statutes, cases and administrative decisions

  • Review, organize, indexes and Bates stamps pertinent documents for disclosure/discovery and for use in court

  • Conduct investigations and fact-finding

  • Assist in or conduct witness interviews, collect relevant documents and records; summarize information in detailed written form for attorneys

  • Analyze, organize, review and verify records and other documents obtained through the discovery process

  • Attend continuing legal education seminars and in-house training

Working Conditions

  • Teleworking/AWA available after 6 months

  • Office setting which may require extended periods of sitting to perform tasks

  • May be required to drive personal or county owned vehicle to travel to and from various county locations

  • Ability to move up to 20 pounds floor to waist and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds a distance of up to 100 feet
