We are seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant to support safe, efficient movement of patients throughout the facility while contributing to exceptional patient care. In this role, you will transport patients between clinical and non clinical areas, assist with basic care needs, and provide observation and companionship when appropriate. You will also help maintain smooth nursing unit operations by ensuring transport related equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.

Responsibilities: As a Patient Care Assistant, you will support safe, efficient patient movement throughout the facility while ensuring excellent communication, adherence to clinical standards, and strong collaboration with nursing and support teams. This role requires a dependable team member who can assist with patient care needs, maintain essential equipment, and contribute to smooth departmental operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and follow all established departmental policies, procedures, and expectations to ensure safe and consistent transport operations.
- Support established medical therapies during transport-including oxygen, IVs, restraints, catheters, and isolation precautions-and immediately notify nursing staff of any equipment alarms.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare team members, and Presbyterian Care Connection (PCC) to support coordinated patient flow.
- Retrieve, store, and transport oxygen cylinders in accordance with hospital policy, ensuring safe handling and availability.
- Transport patients for admissions, discharges, surgical and procedural services, and interunit transfers using the appropriate mode of transport (wheelchair, stretcher, bed, bariatric bed).
- Assist with patient transfers within and outside the facility, supporting mobility and ambulation needs as appropriate.
- Use automated bedtracking systems to document patient movement and collaborate closely with PCC to optimize facility flow.
- Gather, deliver, and manage essential transportrelated equipment, including monitors; deliver malfunctioning equipment to Maintenance for repair.
- Provide safety and security monitoring for assigned patients, respond to call lights, and alert nursing staff to changes in patient condition.
- Perform additional support tasks including specimen and equipment delivery, basic clerical duties, participation in educational programs, and adapting to organizational changes while maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- HS/GED
- Less than 1 year experience in hospital setting and patient transport.
- BLS Required
- Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.
