Job Description

The Raw Materials Purchasing Director will lead a global purchasing team to develop commodity strategies, negotiate annual steel contracts with potential suppliers, and source new programs. The Raw Materials Purchasing Candidate will manage $2+ billion of annual purchases of flat steel, flat aluminum, primary/secondary aluminum and weld wire commodities.



The selected candidate will manage all elements of the supplier relationship including quality, cost, delivery and technology development. They will facilitate interaction with personnel from Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Program Management and Product Design Office teams to maximize collaboration internally and with suppliers. The Raw Materials Purchasing Director will be responsible for a group of 12 Buyers and 2 Leads (U.S & Mexico) including their performance management and career development.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Supply Chain Management or Engineering
  • Minimum of 12 years of closely related work experience
  • Strong background in metallic raw material buying or sales, and forecasting
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proactive and visionary, with a track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement
  • Effective listener and ability to build relationships in cross functional groups and with global counterparts
  • Ability to coach, manage, and motivate both the buyers and the supply base, and drive timely resolution of open issues
  • Proven ability to manage people and lead teams
  • Ability to cultivate internal and external relationships and earning trust
  • Demonstrated the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Fluent in English (90%) - ability to communicate effectively with international teams and suppliers
