Job Summary

The Coordinator, Residential Student Care addresses the needs of residential students who are experiencing difficulties related to mental health, physical health and/or psycho-social adjustment, personal and family emergencies, financial challenges or who need general assistance. The Coordinator provides guidance for students to navigate residential life and campus, connecting students to the abundance of available resources while prioritizing student well-being and academic success. This role is cross trained to assist with Student Conduct issues and programming as needed.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as an essential resource for residential students experiencing difficulties related to mental health, physical health and/or psycho-social adjustment, personal and family emergencies, financial challenges or who need general assistance.
  • Assists with coordinating the day-to-day operations ofresidential care.Provides guidance and direction toresidence life staffto ensure that residents receive theappropriatefollow-upand it is documented inappropriate databases.
  • Provides care services to students including formulating intervention plans, facilitating communication, and follow up.
  • Assists with the daily processing ofcareand roommate mediation incident reports within Maxient.Verifies incident reports areaccurateand clear, and conducts follow up with reporters to gatheradditionalinformation as needed.
  • Assistsin planning, coordinating, and reporting the activities of residential student care & concernprocesses, andassistsin developing and implementing procedures for universityhousingadministrative operations and programs.
  • Assistsdepartment administrators in resolving administrative and operational housing problems.
  • Assists with designing andfacilitatingtraining workshops forhousing and residence life staff members as it relates to caring for residential students.
  • Participatesin recommending, interpreting, and implementing proceduresand processesin regards toproviding care for residential students.
  • Recommends new and improved programs to effectively manage housing administrative operations.
  • Interprets University policy regarding students and recommends necessary updates.
  • Maintains and disseminates accurate directory of community resources available to students; maintains relationships with staff and other agencies to provide care coordination with needed services and support through advocacy and referrals.
  • Stays current on trends and education inthe Residential Student Care functional areain order todevelop new and improved programming.Participates in state, regional, and national professional organizations,conferencesand workshops.
  • Representsthe Housing and Residence Life on department and university committees, as well as community events asrequested.
  • Provides supplemental support for residential student conduct matters as needed, including case coordination, documentation, consultation with residential staff, and student follow-up to support established policies and work toward consistent outcomes.

Other Duties:

  • May supervise OPS, studentworkersand/or volunteers/staff duringspecial events.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements for Coordinator I, Residential Student Care:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Minimum Requirements for Coordinator II, Residential Student Care:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems and experience with referrals, documentation and active follow-up.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of student support and intervention theory and best practices.
  • Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in college student population.
  • Knowledge of assessment, risk management and violence prevention strategies and approaches and how to apply them in a university setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs/services.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

Coordinator, Residential Student Care Level II- Pay Grade 17

Applicants will be evaluated for roles as either Coordinator I, Residential Student Care or Coordinator II, Residential Student Care based on their qualifications.
