Data Specialist

The University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease is recruiting a Data Specialist to manage The HIV Care and Prevention Program's databases, reporting, and analysis needs.

The HIV program is a highly dynamic clinical and support services program with a public health focus. The program cares for those affected by HIV, works to prevent new HIV transmissions, and strives to end the HIV epidemic. The program has received federal and state grant funding for over 25 years to ensure access to HIV prevention and treatment services for Wisconsin residents. The Data Specialist is an integral team member and is key to meeting our program's goals. This position manages the assessment, design, implementation, and maintenance of databases, data warehouses, and data models needed to support analysis, performance measurement, and reporting. The existing data universe includes electronic medical record data, data reports from collaborating agencies and vendors, and data collected by program staff. The incumbent will work with existing database and data warehouses as well as contribute to the design and implementation of new data warehouses. They will also import and manually enter data, perform data quality assurance activities, interpret grant data requirements, educate program staff on the program's data and reporting capabilities, and develop and run reports needed by program staff.

• This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

• Leads the design, development, and management of data models for data warehouses

• Assesses business requirements, coordinates detailed technical reviews of programs and data models, determines appropriate strategy, and prepares oral and/or written reports

• Leads system integration, implementation, and acceptance testing of data warehousing tools and data models

• Provides advanced operational support and maintenance

• Designs, implements, and maintains data warehouses and data models needed to support analysis and reporting

• Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate data warehouses needed to support analysis and reporting

• Provides advanced operational support and issue resolution of data warehouses and associated processes

• Leads collaboration with other IT professionals in the development of appropriate data warehousing design guidelines and effective use of tools for building and managing data models for data warehouses

• Serves as a subject matter expert to unit and institutional leadership on data warehousing, database application programs, and automated procedures and reporting

• Identifies, develops, and facilitates training opportunities regarding data sets and programs

• Implements and tests complex data warehousing tools and data models

• Serves as a subject matter expert on data warehousing, database application programs, and automated procedures and reporting

• Leads the identification, development, and facilitation of training opportunities regarding specific data sets and programs

The Division of Infectious Disease are national experts in infectious disease clinical care and leadership. We lead comprehensive education, research and clinical programs in partnership with the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health.

The starting salary for the position is $85,000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

• Demonstrated ability to maintain, analyze, manage, and visualize large data sets.
• Previous experience with data management and analysis using Microsoft Access, Excel, or other software, including automation through macros, Visual Basic for Applications, and other programming tools.
• Ability to create and present information in an effective and engaging manner.

• Data warehousing and/or performance measurement related to public health or medical care data
• Experience with medical records software and data
• Experience with SQL
• Experience with QlikView or other business intelligence software

Bachelor's degree preferred.
