Opening Statement

This position is open to two P-levels: Associate Control Systems Specialist (Grade 5 / P1 - Entry) and Control Systems Specialist (Grade 6 / P2 - Intermediate).
The level at which an offer is made will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

Job Overview

As a Control Systems Specialist, you will deliver expert technical support for SCADA systems and Operational Technology computer networks across design, operations, and maintenance functions. This position requires strong analytical skills to interpret business processes and implement effective solutions.

Responsibilities for this role are determined by P-level and are outlined separately below.

Responsibilities - Associate Control Systems Specialist (Grade 5 / P1 - Entry)

Production Control Systems

  • Assists in the configuration of devices used in the control systems and helps technicians in troubleshooting problems.
  • Assists engineering and project teams with programming, and commissioning of control systems.
  • Supports the modification of programs for various software applications for PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMIs.
  • Assists in maintaining existing DCS and HMI platform(s), Auxiliary control systems to minimize downtime and performance losses.
  • Maintains user access to control systems.

Troubleshooting and Analysis

  • With guidance, provide first-level support for troubleshooting system failures (controls/graphics, field devices, electrical). With guidance, support the troubleshooting of failures on IT platforms: Software Applications, Operating Systems and Computer Networks

Testing and Controls

  • Follows procedure complete performance tests of control equipment and systems. Documents testing results. Maintains testing procedures. Performs system performance audits and document results.

Consultation and Leadership

  • Participates in project design reviews to ensure P&IDs, instrumentation specs, and other engineering documents meet standards. Communicates with site management regarding product design and schedule. Provides information to other team members.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensures all processes align to appropriate standards, regulations, and laws. Maintains compliance-related documentation. Runs reports and analyzes data as needed. Ensure safe work practices. Follows quality documentation forms and executes them prior, during and post to every testing process.

Project Coordination

  • Supports site operational maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs.

Responsibilities - Control Systems Specialist (Grade 6 / P2 - Intermediate)

Production Control Systems

  • Leads site commissioning, activities and trains site personnel on control system applications.
  • Responsible for the modification of programs for various software applications for PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMIs..
  • Responsible for maintaining/Enhancing existing DCS and HMI platform(s), Auxiliary systems minimize downtime and performance losses.
  • Provides advanced configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Performs and documents tasks in accordance to regulatory or compliance standards.
  • Manages user access to control systems.

Troubleshooting and Analysis

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolution of control system failures (graphics, field devices, electrical). Lead in the troubleshooting of failures on IT platforms: Software Applications, Operating Systems, and Computer Networks.

Testing and Controls

  • Develops performance tests of controls equipment and systems and integrates the information for equipment trending and decision-making purposes. Develops and maintains testing procedures and documentation. Leads in system performance audits to identify and develop functional improvements and enhance controls.

Consultation and Leadership

  • Provides input in project design reviews to ensure P&IDs, instrumentation specs, and other engineering documents meet standards. Assists project teams with the creation of design and construction documents as they relate to control systems. Communicates with the site management regarding project design and schedule. Provides coaching, guidance, and feedback to other team members.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensures all processes align to appropriate standards, regulations, and laws. Maintains compliance-related documentation. Runs reports and analyzes data as needed. Ensure safe work practices. Develops and follows quality documentation forms and executes them prior, during and post to every testing process.

Project Coordination

  • Proactively identify new projects for the company and support design, construction, operation, maintenance, and testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs.

Education / Experience / Certifications

Education
Requires a degree in engineering, project management, or a related technical field or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • P1: Typically two or fewer years of technical experience in control systems

  • P2: Typically 2 or more years of technical experience in control systems

Certifications, Licenses and Training
CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+ Cisco CCNA preferred but not required.
