Position Summary
The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research
    - Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in epidemiology with a focus on diabetes and related metabolic diseases.
    - Conduct high-impact, peer-reviewed research in areas such as diabetes incidence, risk factors, disparities, prevention, or outcomes.
    - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across clinical, public health, and data science domains.
    - Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers.
    - Disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, and community engagement.
    Teaching
    - Teach graduate courses in genetic epidemiology.
    - Develop innovative curriculum and instructional materials.
    - Advise and mentor students in academic and research activities.
    Service
    - Participate in departmental, school, and university committees.
    - Contribute to professional service through peer review, editorial work, and involvement in academic societies.
    - Engage with community and public health stakeholders to translate research into practice.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Medicine, or a closely related field.
    • Demonstrated research focus in diabetes, metabolic disorders, or chronic disease epidemiology.
    • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications (commensurate with career stage).
    • Evidence of potential to secure external research funding.
    • Ability to teach epidemiology or related courses at the university level.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Postdoctoral training or equivalent research experience in epidemiology or diabetes research.
    • Experience with large datasets, longitudinal studies, or population health research.
    • Expertise in advanced epidemiologic methods (e.g., causal inference, biostatistics, machine learning applications).
    • Demonstrated commitment to health equity and reducing disparities in diabetes outcomes.
    • Experience working with diverse populations or community-based research.
    • Prior teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
