Position Summary The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Duties & Responsibilities Research - Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in epidemiology with a focus on diabetes and related metabolic diseases. - Conduct high-impact, peer-reviewed research in areas such as diabetes incidence, risk factors, disparities, prevention, or outcomes. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across clinical, public health, and data science domains. - Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers. - Disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, and community engagement. Teaching - Teach graduate courses in genetic epidemiology. - Develop innovative curriculum and instructional materials. - Advise and mentor students in academic and research activities. Service - Participate in departmental, school, and university committees. - Contribute to professional service through peer review, editorial work, and involvement in academic societies. - Engage with community and public health stakeholders to translate research into practice.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Medicine, or a closely related field. Demonstrated research focus in diabetes, metabolic disorders, or chronic disease epidemiology. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications (commensurate with career stage). Evidence of potential to secure external research funding. Ability to teach epidemiology or related courses at the university level. Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral training or equivalent research experience in epidemiology or diabetes research. Experience with large datasets, longitudinal studies, or population health research. Expertise in advanced epidemiologic methods (e.g., causal inference, biostatistics, machine learning applications). Demonstrated commitment to health equity and reducing disparities in diabetes outcomes. Experience working with diverse populations or community-based research. Prior teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
