Job Summary

The Safety Superintendent supports project teams in executing safe work practices that protect workers, the public, and the communities where we build. This role provides hands-on field oversight, conducts inspections, delivers training, and assists with incident prevention and response. Guided by the mission to safely construct the vital infrastructure that powers our economy, the Safety Superintendent helps ensure every worker goes home safely, every day, so families and communities remain strong.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and field observations to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Inspect PPE, tools, equipment, and heavy machinery for safe operation.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings, contribute to site-specific safety plans.
  • Ensure safety controls such as signage, barricades, lighting, and access restrictions are in place and implemented.
  • Other duties as assigned and needed.
Safety Program Implementation
  • Assist in developing, updating, and implementing safety policies and procedures.
  • Support company policies and programs.
  • Review subcontractor safety practices and ensure alignment with project requirements.
Training & Safety Culture
  • Deliver safety training for employees and subcontractors as necessary.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, JHA's and toolbox talks across entire business unit.
  • Encourage open and honest communication along with hazard reporting instruction.
  • Ensure STCKY communications with Preventative Action adherence.
  • Participate in RCA learning events.
Incident Investigation & Prevention
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; determine root causes & corrective action.
  • Ensure accurate and timely accident and incident reporting in HCSS.
  • Verify training/ skills in HCSS.
Qualifications Required
  • 5 years of Heavy civil construction experience.
  • OSHA, MSHA and DOT regulatory knowledge.
  • Proficiency in hazard analysis, incident investigation and delivering safety training.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual capable of contributing in teams' settings & managing task independently
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHST, OSHA 500/510 certifications.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft: word, excel and teams.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent visits to active construction sites with exposure to outdoor conditions and heavy equipment.
  • Occasional work in confined spaces, trenches, or elevated locations.
  • Travel as needed.
