Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University is currently looking for a project manager; this position will report directly to the Vice President and Chief People Officer. The HR Project Manager (Temporary) will lead and support key Human Resources initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities. This role partners closely with HR leadership, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to drive execution of strategic and operational HR projects.
Key Responsibilities


  • Lead end-to-end project management for HR initiatives (e.g., HRIS implementations, performance management cycles, compensation programs, employee engagement initiatives)
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones; track progress and ensure accountability
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including HR, and external partners
  • Identify risks and dependencies; develop mitigation strategies and escalate as needed
  • Facilitate project meetings, document decisions, and communicate updates to stakeholders and leadership
  • Support change management efforts, including communication plans, training coordination, and adoption strategies
  • Analyze data and metrics to inform project decisions and measure outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations
  • Provide general operational support to HR leadership as needed during peak cycles or critical initiatives, to include developing PowerPoint presentations, communication plans, cava flyers to promote and mange different responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of project management experience, preferably within HR or a related function
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, cross-functional projects
  • Strong knowledge of HR functional areas (e.g., talent management, compensation, HR operations)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Asana, MS Project) and Microsoft Office Suite and google suites

  • PMP, CAPM, or similar project management certification
  • Experience in higher education or large, complex organizations
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, PeopleSoft)
