What to Expect
The Quality Engineering Technician will work closely with Quality Engineering in setting up test track processes, identifying rooms for improvement, working with test track drivers and/or Auto Pilot operations and logistics team to ensure smooth and safe operations. They will support issue investigations, root cause analysis, providing reports, charts, graphs and anything else needed to define, measure, analyze, improve and control product and process quality. The successful candidate must have mechanical aptitude, the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented and be able to both take direction and work independently.
What You'll Do
- Establish and find tune test track processes, then monitor, teach, coach, and train the operational and other cross functional teams involved with the test track
- Lead track operations with safety and productivity in mind and facilitate driving root cause investigations for product or process issues found, along with corrective-actions implementation, and follow up with cross functional teams until closure
- Perform various drive tests including but not limited to BSR, NVH evaluation, high speed drives, reliability test drives and support vehicle data collection for issue discovery and resolution
- Monitor track process, track safety and operations to identify issues quickly, investigate potential improvements then implement and sustain corrective and preventative actions and countermeasures
- Work closely with quality engineering, manufacturing, and process Engineering to establish and sustain robust processes and procedures, which ensure consistent high quality
- Audit outgoing or incoming products, support in repair activities, continuous improvement and troubleshooting within Tesla factories, service centers, and/or its suppliers
- Maintain and update Quality documentation as needed, write high-quality work instructions, measure and coordinate measurement of data, anticipate potential problems and take preventative action
What You'll Bring
- 1 or more years of experience in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Process focused role
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, trouble-shooting skills, and ability to attentively monitor an area for safety of operations
- Mechanical inspection experience using basic and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, multimeters, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and electrical drawings
- Understanding of, or experience, in fundamentals of GD&T, lean manufacturing principles, work instruction development, and quality problem solving methodologies highly desired
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ability to lift and sort parts of up to 30 pounds as needed
- Ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
