Summary
Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.

The Mitchell Lab in the Vincent Center for Reproductive Biology conducts translational research on vaginal microbiota and genital mucosal immunology with the goal of improving vaginal health for women around the world. Our current projects include observational studies of response to treatment of vaginal infections, randomized trials of novel treatments and basic bench experiments to elucidate mechanisms underlying our observations. Women's health, and especially vaginal health, is an historically under-resourced area of science and we are inspired to grow our understanding in the service of improving care for women.

The Research Technician I reports directly to the PI, Dr. Mitchell and is expected to work independently on assigned research with some guidance from a higher level staff member or Principal Investigator. One of the responsibilities of this role is to process, aliquot and store samples collected as part of research studies in a timely, efficient and reproducible manner. The individual is expected to carry out research activities of moderate complexity requiring some professional training. With broad guidance from the supervisor, the Technician will learn to independently perform experiments to accomplish laboratory research goals. The technician will be able to perform basic design and modification of protocols and troubleshoot with minimal guidance from the supervising member.

The position is responsible for standard molecular and biochemical analyses, tissue and cell culture, flow cytometry, as well as a number of other research activities including sample logging, supply ordering and sample organization. In addition, s/he/they will be responsible for documenting, analyzing, and reporting and interpreting the results derived from patient samples The individual will also present results at lab meeting, and participate in writing up results for publication.

The Research Technician I will also facilitate the experiments of Clinical Research Fellows, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, and other research personnel.

The individual will also assist with gathering information needed for grant preparation and reporting and must be proficient in basic computer skills including word-processing, database and spreadsheet management, email and internet.
