DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
In this position, you will support the Safe Drinking Water Program by ensuring public water systems follow state rules and protect community health. The work you will do focuses on inspecting systems, reviewing information, and helping operators meet safety requirements. As a Sanitarian Trainee, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Inspections: Conduct inspections of public water systems and review data to check that operations follow state drinking water standards
- System Reviews: Evaluate water system records, plans, and equipment to confirm that safe practices are being used
- Public Assistance: Provide information to operators, officials, and the public to support understanding of regulations and water safety issues
- Sampling Activities: Collect water samples and verify laboratory results to ensure quality standards are met
- Compliance Support: Identify problems and recommend steps operators must take to correct issues and maintain compliance

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
Other Requirements:
- You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
