DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
This position provides emergency response, fire prevention, and safety support for structures and aircraft at the Middletown Airbase. It focuses on rescue operations, inspections, equipment use, and readiness for all types of hazards. As an Installation Firefighter, you will perform the following duties:
- Emergency Response: Respond to fires, crashes, and rescue situations involving buildings, aircraft, vehicles, or hazardous conditions
- Rescue Operations: Remove individuals from danger using ladders, tools, ropes, or other methods while providing first aid or life support when needed
- Equipment Use: Operate breathing apparatus, hose lines, extinguishers, and rescue tools under extreme conditions
- Safety Inspections: Inspect fire systems, extinguishers, hydrants, and hazardous areas to support safe operations
- Standby Support: Provide watch during fueling, maintenance, welding, and public events to ensure compliance with fire regulations
- Station Maintenance: Maintain station areas, equipment, hoses, and records to support daily operations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:
- Three years of firefighting experience as a member of a municipal or governmental fire department and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require an active Firefighter II certification from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
- All positions require possession of an active Hazardous Materials Awareness certification and an active Hazardous Materials Operations certification from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
- All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- All employees must initially and annually be medically certified as meeting the medical requirements of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1582, Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments.
- This position requires possession of an active emergency medical technician (EMT) certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Health or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
- All employees must obtain within one year of hire and maintain over the course of employment an active Class B Pennsylvania commercial driver's license or an active certificate of authorization to operate fire emergency vehicles issued by the Fire Chief of the hiring fire station.
- All employees must obtain within one year of hire and maintain over the course of employment an active Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF), and Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply certifications from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid federal or REAL ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Middletown Airbase.
- You must obtain and maintain Secret Clearance for access to restricted areas and federal network access.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Willingness and ability to work in Middletown Airbase, PA (Dauphin County)
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Firefighting experience as a member of a municipal or governmental fire department
- Possession of an active Hazardous Materials Operations certification or higher from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Services Professional Qualifications
- Ability to successfully pass a background check to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
- Willingness and ability to obtain within one year of hire and maintain an active Class B Pennsylvania commercial driver's license or an active certificate of authorization to operate fire emergency vehicles issued by the Fire Chief of the hiring fire station
