Overview

A Nuclear Engineering Auditor is a driver of quality and regulatory compliance for Waterfront Engineering nuclear products from initial design to construction support, through fleet support.

Audit & Assessment affords the unique opportunity to work directly with all levels of management across the engineering organizations to develop, propose, and execute audit plans to ensure successful execution of engineering processes. A successful Nuclear Engineering Auditor will network with production communities and integrate themselves with the technical communities they oversee.

As an independent worker, the Nuclear Engineering Auditor is entrusted with the review of source documentation to identify key attribute for verification during the audit period. The auditor must be committed and driven to take on new challenges and acquire new areas of knowledge to provide oversight on a variety of topics.

By assembling observations of deficiencies and opportunities for improvement during the audit process, the Nuclear Engineering Auditor can develop insightful problem statements that prompt meaningful change.

Nuclear Engineering Auditor positions will have direct influence on the annual Nuclear Audit Plan, with opportunities to tailor the plan to specifically build off the auditor's skillset, develop new skills, and tackle some of Electric Boat's toughest challenges.

Audit & Assessment provides oversight of work in all areas of manufacturing and construction, giving auditors the chance to gain experience in an unrivaled scope of disciplines and evolutions. Auditors are trained in problem identification and root-cause analysis and will gain a quality-mindset that will be an asset in any career path.

Specific responsibilities include:

    Development of audit project plans including timelines and key attributes
  • Management and execution of audit plan
  • Presentation of observations and findings to all levels of management
  • Writing engineering audit reports
  • Review of, and coaching to support, management responses to audit reports
  • Participation in external audits, inspections, and evaluations


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Radiological, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial/Systems, or Materials)
  • 0-2 years of post graduate Engineering experience
  • Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in audit, compliance, requirements management, or similar
  • Experience with government regulations, MIL-STDs and MIL-SPECs, or similar
  • Experience in barrier analysis and/or root-cause analysis

  • Performs work independently
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work effectively with management, trades personnel, and engineering
  • Use of digital engineering software
