Position Summary

The Manager of Asset Management serves as the strategic and commercial owner for a portfolio of operating renewable energy assets and manages a small, skilled team driving financial performance, asset optimization, and stakeholder alignment across the asset lifecycle. This role acts as the primary commercial relationship manager for partners, customers, lenders, operators, and other key stakeholders while leading initiatives that maximize portfolio value creation and long-term profitability.

The Manager of Asset Management is responsible for developing and executing portfolio strategies, identifying operational and commercial optimization opportunities, leading cross-functional initiatives, and supporting enterprise decision-making related to renewable generation assets. This position requires strong analytical capability, commercial acumen, and the ability to influence outcomes across technical, operational, financial, and executive stakeholder groups. The Manager will also focus on automation and incorporation of additional AI capabilities to help the department scale efficiently with portfolio growth.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of renewable energy markets, power market dynamics, and complex commercial structures, while helping foster a culture of continuous improvement grounded in integrity, accountability, collaboration, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial and strategic management of a portfolio of operating renewable energy assets, including wind, solar, and battery storage projects

  • Develop and execute asset optimization strategies to maximize financial performance, operational efficiency, and long-term asset value

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for external stakeholders including partners, customers, lenders, operators, consultants, and off-takers

  • Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify operational, commercial, contractual, or market-driven risks and opportunities

  • Analyze asset performance, market conditions, regulatory developments, and financial impacts to support strategic recommendations and decision-making

  • Lead negotiations and resolution efforts related to commercial disputes, settlements, contract compliance matters, and operational performance issues

  • Support strategic initiatives including hedging strategies, restructurings, refinancing activities, mergers and acquisitions, repower evaluations, and development optimization efforts

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Commercial, Risk, Development, Legal, and Executive Leadership teams to drive enterprise priorities

  • Prepare and deliver executive-level presentations, portfolio updates, scorecards, and value creation reporting for senior leadership and investment stakeholders

  • Lead or participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives that enhance scalability, governance, reporting, and portfolio performance

  • Support forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and long-range planning activities associated with the operating portfolio

  • Maintain a strong understanding of renewable energy market structures, ISO/RTO market dynamics, regulatory developments, and emerging industry trends

  • Manage a small team of experienced Asset Managers who are directly responsible for the day-to-day management, compliance, and reporting relating to assigned assets

  • Mentor and provide guidance to analysts and junior team members as applicable

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related discipline

  • Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible experience in asset management, energy markets, finance, commercial operations, renewable development, or related field

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline

  • Professional designation such as CFA, CPA, or PMP

  • Strong understanding of renewable energy markets, asset operations, and wholesale power market fundamentals

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling

  • Experience analyzing complex commercial agreements and financial structures

  • Experience with complex Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs), Contracts for Differences (CFDs), tolling agreements, and structured energy products

  • Understanding of ISO/RTO operations and market products including Energy, Capacity, Ancillary Services, and Transmission markets

  • Experience supporting or leading commercial optimization strategies for renewable or conventional power generation assets

  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions, project finance, or investment analysis within the energy industry

  • Strong business judgment and ability to balance commercial, operational, regulatory, and financial considerations

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and drive outcomes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and executive audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholder groups

  • Self-motivated with strong initiative, accountability, and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in Charlotte, NC

  • This is an in-office position with opportunity to work remotely once per week; employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated office location
