Main Duties & Responsibilities

Summary:

Maintains parts inventory and stock levels. Implements Kanban systems as needed. Works with the maintenance team to obtain parts and supplies, including picking up and delivering parts from local suppliers. Helps maintain the accuracy of maintenance express parts inventory and enters new parts into the system.

Reviews upcoming preventive maintenance activities and ensures parts and fluids are available.

Job Responsibilities:

Under supervision, requisitions parts and supplies for the maintenance department. Sources parts through both established and new suppliers. Coordinates with Purchasing to add new suppliers to the system and obtain purchase orders. Maintains parts inventory and performs cycle counts to ensure accuracy. Provides contractor escort services as required and coordinates completion of EHS and ITAR documentation with Human Resources and EHS personnel. Performs other job-related duties as assigned based on business needs.

1. Reviews part requests from electricians and mechanics and monitors inventory for low- or out-of-stock items. Communicates with electricians or mechanics as needed regarding size, quantity, material, or other specifications to ensure accurate fulfillment.

2. Reviews upcoming preventive maintenance activities to confirm that prework kit parts are available and orders any required parts or supplies.

3. Contacts suppliers through multiple channels to obtain quotes and pricing, including internet research, email, and direct phone calls. For complex orders, coordinates with a mechanic or electrician to confirm exact requirements.

4. Enters purchase requisitions into the system and tracks requests until parts are received.

5. Verifies deliveries to ensure all parts have been received and monitors any backordered items.

6. Maintains a satisfactory driving record to operate company vehicles for the pickup and delivery of parts from local suppliers.

7. Establishes Kanban systems in critical areas for spare parts. Conducts cycle counts to ensure system accuracy, adjusts on-hand inventory as needed to maintain stock, and meets with management to determine whether minimum and maximum levels should be adjusted based on usage.

8. Analyzes parts usage and coordinates an annual review of obsolete inventory.

9. Maintains a clean work area and disposes of packaging, scrap, and waste appropriately.

10. Updates work activities in the maintenance computerized management system.

Equipment/Process Responsibilities - Assists with ordering parts and services for the repair of machines, tools, equipment, and physical plant assets, including buildings, grounds, and furnishings. Coordinates with contractors and city officials as needed to facilitate repairs. Maintains inventory of machine parts and other supplies and uses company vehicles to pick up or deliver parts from local suppliers.

Material or Product Responsibilities - Not directly related to product. May perform duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation, including specifications, verbal instructions, and other requirements.

Responsibility for Work of Others - Accurate communication is essential to the effective maintenance and repair of machines, tools, equipment, furnishings, and the physical plant. Communicates issues or concerns regarding parts, contractors, materials, availability, schedules, sourcing, ordering, and delivery to the appropriate personnel.

Safety Responsibilities - Maintain good housekeeping and follow all safety requirements related to procurement activities, including those involving new chemicals and hazardous materials. Compliance with company safety rules is mandatory. Knowledge of safe cleaning procedures is required. Appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing must be worn for each task.

Initiative and Ingenuity - Work is performed under frequent supervision and follows routine procedures, requiring limited independent judgment in maintaining and replenishing inventory. Applies initiative by identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency of routine tasks and inventory processes.

Work Environment:

Environmental Surroundings - Work is primarily performed in an office setting; however, some duties are performed in a machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, and exposure to outdoor elements may be greater than in a typical office setting.

Unavoidable Hazards - Office hazards are minimal and primarily include repetitive motion and posture-related musculoskeletal risks. On the production floor, potential hazards include cuts, bruises, burns, electrical shock, muscle strains, and severe injury.
Exposure may include moving mechanical parts, metalworking fluids and chemicals, heating elements, open flames, high-voltage electricity, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and motor vehicle operation. Appropriate protective equipment and safety wear must be used based on the task performed.

Effort:

Physical - Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Requires hand and finger dexterity to operate a mouse and computer keyboard. Must be able to reach, bend, stretch, kneel, and stoop while handling delivered, inventoried, or received parts. Assignments may require standing, sitting, and driving for periods longer than 15 minutes at a time.

Mental - Requires mental focus to locate and obtain parts and supplies from various sources and to organize work efficiently under frequent supervision or review.

Visual - Requires close attention to detail and moderate visual concentration for extended periods. Must be able to read precision instruments and have close and distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

On-Site: This role is required to be on-site during all scheduled work days at the Commerce, CA location.


Qualifications

Education:

Demonstrated ability to read and write English at a level required for company documents, computer system entries, and technical instructions. Must be able to apply mathematical concepts, including fractions and decimals, as required. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle.

Experience:

Requires at least six months of work experience in a machine shop environment or equivalent skills and knowledge sufficient to perform the essential functions of the role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MRP systems, and CMMS systems is required.

Compensation

In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $25/hr.

Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
