ASU Operations and Direct Care Manager (Full Time)

Position Summary

The Operations and Direct Care Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and direct-care staff within the Acute Stabilization Unit (ASU). This role provides leadership, supervision, training, and support to Behavioral Health Workers to ensure safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. The supervisor works collaboratively with unit directors and staff to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure compliance with agency policies, regulations, and best practices in crisis intervention.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Supervise and coordinate the responsibilities and tasks of Behavioral Health Workers (BHW) and support staff within the ASU
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, scheduling, and performance evaluations for assigned staff
  • Conduct monthly individual supervision sessions with BHWs to review performance, professional development goals, documentation practices, and client care concerns
  • Facilitate monthly group supervision meetings focused on case review, crisis intervention strategies, staff support, policy update, and team development
  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and respond to operational issues during shifts
  • Monitor unit activities to maintain a safe, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment
  • Assist BHWs with crisis intervention, de-escalation, behavioral management, and emergency response procedures
  • Support implementation of individualized treatment and safety plans developed by the clinical team
  • Conduct shift huddles, communicate updates, and ensure continuity of care between shifts.
  • Ensure BHW compliance with BHDDH regulations, COA accreditation standards, confidentiality laws, and agency policies
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new BHWs
  • Collaborate with director, nurses, and counselors regarding patient care needs
  • Monitor client milieu and intervene or consult with other members of leadership when safety concerns arise
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, dignity, empowerment, and patient-centered care
  • Participate in meetings and program development initiatives as assigned
  • Review and complete incident reports, documentation audits, and quality assurance activities
  • Manage special projects, including audits and accreditation in collaboration with unit director
  • Manage compliance with health and safety regulations in collaboration with the unit director with support from the office coordinator
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with leadership team members to provide after-hours operational and clinical support; additional compensation is provided for on-call coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education


  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or other Human Services related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Experience


  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, or inpatient mental health settings
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use crises strongly preferred

Licensure/Certification


  • CPR and First Aid certification required or obtained upon hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Strong knowledge of crisis stabilization, trauma-informed care, and behavioral health interventions
  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff in a high-acuity environment
  • Skilled in verbal de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis management techniques
  • Understanding of HIPAA, patient rights, and safety procedures
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during escalated situations

Work Environment


  • Fast-paced behavioral health crisis stabilization setting
  • Exposure to clients experiencing mental health and substance-related crises
  • Requires some morning, evening, and weekend hours to complete supervision 24/7 and per diem staff
