What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer for our Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York to contribute to the reliability, availability, and maintainability of automation equipment and assembly lines.

The Test Engineer will work to improve uptime, cycle time, and yield alongside Equipment Engineering peers. The candidate will perform pre-emptive data analysis to understand challenges, and devise solutions that align with equipment and production goals. The candidate will provide ongoing troubleshooting support for the equipment until it meets production targets.

Throughout this process, the candidate will also manage project documentation such as scope, schedule, and budget, and is expected to contribute lessons learned to Tesla's global standards.


What You'll Do
  • Perform pre-emptive data analysis and voice of the customer (VOC) discussions to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment post-deployment, and advocate for solutions that align with both equipment and production goals
  • Continuous improvement, including equipment troubleshooting, and engineering analysis of cycle time, availability, yield, etc.
  • Support equipment troubleshooting and qualification during development and ramp-up
  • Provide ongoing troubleshooting support for these testers after deployment, including responding to downtime events

What You'll Bring
  • Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation high-voltage systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety, and I/O devices (i.e., pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical design and drafting using EPLAN or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with the NRTL program, NFPA, and UL
  • Experience programming with Python, Go, and LabView
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting tester communication protocols such as CAN bus
  • Technical writing competency, especially with development of technical standards, including translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences

    Expected Compensation
    • Associate Test Engineer - $82,440 - $123,660/annual salary
    • Test Engineer - $98,640 - $147,960/annual salary
    + cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
