Who We Are:

Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Children's National offers psychiatric evaluation and assessment, as well as diagnosis and care for children and teens with behavioral symptoms, and emotional and developmental disorders.

About the Role: Responsible for independent clinical practice, providing individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and their parents. Provides evaluation and assessment of children/adolescents mental health needs including psychiatric diagnoses and treatment recommendations. Provides referrals for services as indicated. Provides collaborative consultation to the Attending psychiatrist regarding the child/adolescent functioning and progress.

Full-time weekday position in outpatient psychiatry providing individual and family therapy with children, adolescents, and their parents.

Ability to diagnose and provide evidence-based interventions to children, adolescents, and parents.

Functional Accountabilities
Diagnostic Assessment

  • Formulates diagnoses for patients with acute or chronic mental health disorders. Diagnostically interprets data obtained from psychological test results, social histories, and interviews. Provides risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others.

Individual Psychotherapy

  • Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management
  • Is able to form a therapeutic alliance with patients from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Able to use a variety of therapeutic tools and evidence based treatment modalities
  • Monitors and provides feedback to treatment team psychiatrist on any reported impacts of psychotropic medication on patient's functioning and mental status
  • Completes required electronic documentation in a clear, concise, and timely manner
  • Continuously updates professional knowledge of current treatment techniques and research through attendance at seminars, continuing education courses, workshops, etc

Family Psychotherapy

  • Utilizes a theoretical framework for the focus of the family intervention
  • Able to encourage positive communication among family members
  • Recognizes progress and obstacles towards treatment goals and appropriately intervenes

Group Psychotherapy

  • Able to screen potential group members for appropriateness of group therapy
  • Able to express the goals of the group
  • Utilizes a theoretical framework for the workings of the group
  • Recognizes individual's progress/lack of progress in the group setting and appropriately intervenes.

Crisis/Linkage Services

  • Able to provide crisis intervention skills to highly distressed children and families
  • Able to assess for safety
  • Knowledgeable of community resources/supports for children and families to assist in the attainment of the treatment goals.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children's National believes an individual's base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children's National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual's combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. Children's National is committed to providing a fair and competitive total rewards package to each of our employees. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
