Summary: The Assistant Vice President has responsibility for the direct management of a book of business, both new and existing, understands client goals and objectives and provides strategic consulting that will help clients meet these goals. They may be responsible for managing the members of an Account team. The AVP should develop and maintain relationships with key client stake holders and senior level carrier representatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop high level, multi-year renewal and marketing plans, healthcare reform strategies and oversee annual renewals and complex client presentations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and provide guidance to more junior team members.
  • Maintains and manages solid relationships with clients and carrier sales representatives.
  • Negotiate with carriers for best possible result
  • Work with Senior Leadership team to develop regional client deliverables.
  • Ensure deliverables are executed within the local office(s) and that they are complete, accurate and conform to NFP standards.
  • Make adjustments as necessary
  • Attend renewal and strategy meetings with high profile or difficult clients. Manage team structure and monitor team workload to determine capacity to take on new clients
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key client stake holders and carrier representatives.
  • Continually look for ways to cross sell products and services; actively seek cost savers
  • Serve as the lead on complex or escalated client issues or assignments, providing direction to junior team members as needed
  • May be responsible for managing the Account Executives, Account Managers and Coordinators on a team. Clearly define roles and responsibilities.
  • Effectively delegate to provide challenges and developmental opportunities to junior team members.
  • Leads by example in use of NFP appointed technology and portals
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to team members.
  • May contribute to decisions on new hire selections and internal promotions.
  • May supervise multiple individual contributors and/or managers. Ensures the organization's policies and procedures are adhered to. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance; coaching and mentoring staff and addressing potential problems.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the health care, wellbeing and engagement industry and trends.
  • Strong time management, communications, decision making, human relations, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership, negotiate and follow through a problem to a satisfactory resolution.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with clients, senior management, and staff.
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
  • Ability to assist and maintain good working relationships at all levels across organizations.
  • Supervisory responsibility may include managing a team.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS preferred
  • More than 10 years industry and product line experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • Life, Accident and Health Insurance License required

The base salary range for this position is $77,000 - $132,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
