Summary
The operations manager plays a pivotal role in the advising and retention unit of the student success division. This position serves as a strategic project manager and data analyst, supporting the division's goals to enhance student advising, retention, and completion outcomes. The operations manager will work closely with key stakeholders across the college's credit and non-credit support areas to implement strategic initiatives and analyze data to inform decision-making. Additionally, the operations manager will collaborate with the Associate Vice President of Advising and Retention to ensure a cohesive approach to student success. This role is cross functional, coordinating with the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services and the Associate Vice President of Teaching and Learning.
Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Analyze enrollment and retention trend data and make recommendations for continued process and outcome improvement.
  • Serve as a project manager and data analyst for strategic initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the director of advising, managing the college-wide advisor assignment and communication
  • Collaborate with department leads within advising and retention and the director of enrollment technology to develop an array of communication plans for ongoing enrollment, advising and registration support.
  • Present data to a wide audience, including college leadership, external partners, and relevant interest groups.
  • Supervise one data analyst.
  • Collaborate with key college stakeholders including administration, faculty, and staff, for cross-functional coordination of retention and completion driven events and initiatives.
  • Develop data-driven reporting and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Work with diverse student populations, including international students, student-athletes, undocumented students, and dual-enrollment students.
  • Assists with the development of strategic articulation agreements and advise on the development of key memorandums of understanding.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for staff and faculty to ensure compliance with institutional processes and standards.


Minimum Education Required Bachelor's degree
Experience Required

  • Expertise in multiple academic technologies, including Ellucian Colleague, Self-Service, CRM Advise, CRM Recruit, Business Objects, SAP, and Analytics Cloud.
  • Extensive background in the development of data-driven reporting and experience in analyzing and presenting data.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and student information systems, CRF, databases, and other technology supporting student success.
  • Extensive background in project management in an academic setting.
  • Ability to make recommendations for improvement and implementation based on data analysis.
  • Experience working with diverse high school and college student populations.
  • Experience in enrollment services and academic advising, in a community college setting.
  • Working knowledge of academic programs and pathways, curriculum, and college transfer processes.


ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor
  • Minimum of five years of related experience in the community college setting
  • Strong technological, analytical and data presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and stakeholders
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including public speaking
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and set priorities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Commitment to diversity, and champion for equity
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws including FERPA

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
