Job Summary

The Event and Marketing Specialist, under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, manages all department-hosted faculty related events (ranging in size from 100 to 1,000 participants), both virtual and in-person overseeing the entire event lifecycle. The Event and Marketing Specialist develops and distributes marketing material for department-hosted events via print, website and social media. Additionally, the Event and Marketing Specialist manages the department's social media accounts and quarterly e-newsletters as well as assisting with the annual printed newsletter and the department website. Qualified candidates will be highly organized, technically savvy, detail oriented and possess strong writing skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience planning and managing all aspects of conferences and events.
  • Experience developing marketing strategies and writing social media posts.
  • Demonstrated organization skills with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently while juggling multiple priorities Strong communication, writing, editing and Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.
  • Interpersonal skills to clearly and effectively interact with people of varying ages and cultural backgrounds, in person and in writing; ability to clarify situations and resolve problems; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, especially to resolve disagreements and conflicts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with campus systems such as AggieExpense.
  • Graphic design skills.
  • Web design skills.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis travel and entertainment policies.

Department Overview

The Chemistry Department is a large and complex academic and research department located in the College of Letters and Science. The department has state and extramural funds with expenditures of approximately $28M annually including $8M in organized research. There are 29 staff members, 40 senate faculty, 3 continuing lecturers, many Federation appointees, Emeritus Faculty, Postdocs, Pre-Six Lecturers, as well as 250 graduate students and 750 undergraduate majors.

Work Environment
