Our Buffalo-area plant is the newest and flagship manufacturing facility for our proven and growing Surestone technology. This state-of-the-art extrusion and polymer operation plays an important role in expanding our production capacity and serving customers nationwide. Job Summary The Shipping & Receiving Clerk coordinates inbound and outbound shipments for the Buffalo facility. This role prepares and verifies shipping documentation, schedules freight, communicates with carriers, and works closely with Production, Sales, Inventory, and plant leadership to ensure materials and finished products move accurately and on time. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and able to communicate effectively with internal teams, drivers, and outside freight providers. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule outbound shipments in partnership with Production, Sales, Inventory, and plant leadership.
- Coordinate outbound shipping activities including driver check-in, loader assignment, load verification, shipment routing, and processing completed shipping documentation within company systems, including MSR and CarrierPoint.
- Coordinate inbound receiving activities including driver check-in, loader assignment, load verification, and processing completed receiving documentation within company systems, including MSR and Wabtec.
- Arrange common-carrier transportation and communicate pickup, delivery, and customer receiving instructions to carriers.
- Determine appropriate loading sequences and product placement based on delivery requirements, weight limits, and safe loading practices.
- Prepare, review, verify, and maintain bills of lading, packing lists, shipping records, receiving records, and other required documentation.
- Ensure shipping and receiving documentation complies with company procedures and applicable transportation regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of incoming materials, outgoing finished goods, carrier activity, and shipment transactions.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to shipping and receiving team members regarding operational questions, load issues, and process concerns.
- Monitor and update transportation, inventory, and receiving information within company systems, including CarrierPoint, Wabtec, and MSR.
- Document, investigate, and communicate shortages, damages, shipment discrepancies, receiving discrepancies, and inventory variances to the appropriate internal teams.
- Respond to requests regarding shipment tracking, order status, delivery issues, and expedited shipments.
- Communicate regularly with carriers, drivers, customers, and internal departments regarding shipping, receiving, and inventory-related matters.
- Scan, file, and maintain shipping and receiving records and supporting documentation as required.
- Support inventory accuracy, material flow, and warehouse organization throughout the shipping and receiving areas.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials from trucks, railcars, trailers, or carts as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and operational summaries as required.
- Participate in safety initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and plant meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of six months of experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, or a related area.
- Manufacturing or industrial warehouse experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of shipping documentation, freight coordination, and standard DOT requirements.
- Familiarity with safe loading practices, truck capacities, and weight limitations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with ERP, inventory, or transportation-management systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to communicate effectively with carriers, drivers, customers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to complete the company's forklift licensing process.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Compensation & Benefit Information Hourly pay range: $20.00-$25.00 per hour, dependent on experience. * *The pay range may be adjusted based on cost of living, relevant experience, internal equity, and other job-related factors. Bonus and Incentive Pay Incentive pay may be available and may include weekly production bonuses, trip rates, employee referral bonuses, or other applicable programs.
