As a Medical Assistant 2, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care within the Dermatology department. You will work closely with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, ensuring a seamless and positive patient experience.   • Provide direct clinical care to patients, including taking vital signs, obtaining medical histories, and assisting with examinations.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by healthcare providers, following strict protocols.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate and timely results.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment and providing necessary support to the medical team.
  • Educate patients on their conditions, treatment plans, and self-care practices, promoting understanding and adherence.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other medical staff to coordinate patient care and ensure effective communication.
  • Order and manage medical supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and proper inventory control.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the continuous enhancement of patient care processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related healthcare role.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent, as per state regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, with a strong understanding of dermatological conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping and efficient workflow.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare software.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and standard precautions, ensuring a safe patient care environment.
  • A compassionate and patient-centered approach, with a commitment to providing high-quality, empathetic care.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Active AHA BLS Certification

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
