The Center for Veterans Issues, Inc. (CVI) is looking for a dependable, skilled, and mission-driven Maintenance Worker to help keep our properties safe, comfortable, and welcoming for the Veterans we serve. If you take pride in fixing problems, working with your hands, and seeing the immediate impact of a job well done, this is an opportunity to put your skills to work for a powerful purpose.

What You'll Do

Working closely with the Maintenance Lead, you will help maintain CVI properties and ensure they meet fire, building, HUD, and Housing Authority standards. You'll handle a wide variety of hands-on responsibilities, including:

  • Completing apartment turnovers, typically within two weeks
  • Performing general carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and landscaping work
  • Inspecting buildings, equipment, and systems for maintenance or safety concerns
  • Completing preventive maintenance tasks and assigned projects on schedule
  • Prioritizing, tracking, and updating work orders in Buildium
  • Maintaining tools and equipment in clean, safe, working condition
  • Providing regular updates to maintenance and program leadership
  • Traveling between CVI locations as needed
  • Participating in shared on-call duties and responding to maintenance emergencies
What Success Looks Like

You'll help keep maintenance work moving with at least 90% of assigned tasks completed on time, strong participation in preventive maintenance, full compliance with safety and tool-care requirements, reliable attendance, and growing proficiency in Buildium.

Physical and Work Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position performed indoors and outdoors across multiple locations and in varying weather conditions. The role requires prolonged standing and walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working in tight or elevated spaces. Candidates must be able to safely lift, push, pull, and carry up to 100 pounds.

What You Bring

You are dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable taking initiative while following direction. You communicate professionally, stay composed when challenges arise, and enjoy working as part of a team serving people from diverse backgrounds.

You'll also bring:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous maintenance, repair, construction, or related experience
  • A valid driver's license
  • General carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills
  • Confidence using hand and power tools
  • Basic proficiency with tablets, smartphones, laptops, and electronic work-order systems
  • The flexibility and reliability needed to respond to changing priorities and occasional emergencies
Join Our Mission

At CVI, maintenance is more than repairing buildings-it is creating safe, dignified spaces where Veterans can heal, rebuild, and move forward. Bring your skills, energy, and pride in workmanship to a team committed to serving those who served our country.
