Description and Requirements

Join Lenovo's Cloud Service Provider (CSP) team as an Early Career Server Hardware System Engineer and gain hands-on experience supporting the next generation of server technologies powering cloud computing, AI, and enterprise data centers. In this role, you'll build, configure, test, and validate server platforms used by some of the world's leading technology organizations. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll develop a strong foundation in server hardware architecture, thermal and power validation, firmware management, and system-level troubleshooting.

This is an excellent opportunity for recent engineering graduates who enjoy working directly with hardware, solving technical challenges, and learning how large-scale computing infrastructure is designed, tested, and deployed. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure server systems meet performance, reliability, and quality requirements while gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies including cloud computing, high-performance computing, and GPU-based AI platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Build servers and setup test environment:
  • Build/assemble server nodes, replace components and commodities based on design
  • Install/upgrade OS, software and firmware
  • Verify server basic functions, working with functional owners to fix problems upon appearance.
  • Conduct server thermal, power and air flow testing:
  • Review test logs and report failures.
  • Compose formal reports of server performance.
  • Track issues and verify provided fixes/solutions and follow-ups with customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with computer/server architecture, BIOS/BMC, hardware components, firmware, device driver, CPU, DIMMs, network, storage, power supply, power consumption, air/liquid cooling
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers
  • Strong attention to details to ensure high-quality deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in build/assemble computer/server, includes motherboard, CPU, DIMMs, storage, network, PSU, fan ....
  • Thermal knowledge and test experiences

This role is based in Morrisville, NC. Onsite presence is required 5 days per week.
