The Position

We're hiring an HVAC Electrician for the Port of Portland!

As an HVAC Technician, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our heating, cooling, and building automation systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably across one of the Pacific Northwest's busiest airports. Your work will help create a comfortable, safe, and seamless experience for millions of travelers, tenants, and employees every year.

What you'll do: This role is all about keeping the Port of Portland running behind the scenes. While most people never notice the systems that heat, cool, and power our facilities, they're essential to keeping our employees, tenants, and travelers comfortable and safe.

NOTE: Per labor agreement, hours are bid by seniority. Selected candidate must be available to work all assigned shifts including day, swing, and/or graveyard schedules on any day of the week.

Essential Job Duties

  • Performs repairs, calibration, and maintenance to the following:
    • Johnson Controls, building automation system
    • Boilers
    • Air Handlers
    • Chillers and cooling towers
    • Fans, blowers, and motors
    • Pumps and pumping systems
    • Package HVAC units
    • Air, and water systems, Geothermal
    • Other HVAC Equipment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in HVAC operations, terminology, practice, methods, and testing equipment; computers and PLC's to trouble shoot and adjust systems is preferred.
  • Manufacturers plant or general journeyman electrical license is required.
  • Universal CFC License, or the ability to obtain within the probationary period is required.
  • Maintain a valid state drivers' license is required.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Criminal History Records check and Security Threat Assessment required for a PDX Security Badge is required.
Demonstrated Skills & Knowledge:
  • Good communication including written and verbal skills.
  • Shows the utmost respect for others and is a proven team player.
  • Ability to work around the public and tenants daily.
  • Perform routine tasks with manual dexterity, physical coordination, and stamina.
  • Demonstrate commitment to valuing differences among individuals and passion for being inclusive.

Supplemental and Selection Information

Selection Process: (tentative schedule):

  1. Applications will be accepted through August 2, 2026. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience for submitted application packets will be conducted by Human Resources that week.

  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.

  3. Our goal is to schedule virtual first round of interviews with candidates who successfully passed the SME evaluation by mid-August; followed by a second round of panel interviews.
