Job Summary

The Machinist A is responsible for performing precision machining operations in a manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual and production machining equipment, inspecting finished components, maintaining close tolerances, and producing high-quality parts with minimal supervision. Candidates with honing and lapping experience are highly preferred. While aerospace manufacturing experience is a plus, candidates from other precision machining industries are encouraged to apply, as industry-specific training will be provided.

Job Responsibilities



  • Set up and operate machining equipment to manufacture precision components with minimal supervision.
  • Perform manual honing and lapping operations while maintaining strict dimensional tolerances.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and manufacturing documentation, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, air gauges, comparators, and other inspection tools.
  • Verify part quality and ensure all components meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Adjust machining feeds, speeds, tooling, offsets, and gauges as necessary to achieve required tolerances.
  • Replace worn tooling and perform machine adjustments to maintain production quality.
  • Examine raw materials and workpieces for defects prior to machining.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety procedures.
  • Meet established production schedules and quality expectations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of 7 years of machining, honing, or lapping experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manual honing and lapping processes is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
  • Experience maintaining close tolerances on precision machined components.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, air gauges, comparators, and related inspection equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and make tooling, feed, and speed adjustments as needed.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and shop practices.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems independently while working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must meet applicable export control requirements for positions involving regulated technologies.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of 7 years of machining, honing, or lapping experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Eight or more years of related machining experience preferred.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with precision machining in industries such as industrial manufacturing, automotive, medical device, or similar environments is welcomed.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.
