Position summary

The Associate Director, Marketing and Content Strategy is responsible for leading the firm's content strategy, thought leadership initiatives, case studies, firm-level messaging, and integrated marketing programs that support business development, practice growth, attorney visibility, and firm reputation.

This role serves as a strategic partner to attorneys, practice group leaders, and firm leadership, translating legal insights into compelling content and marketing campaigns that strengthen the firm's market presence and support business development objectives. The associate director will oversee the firm's editorial strategy, digital content, and marketing initiatives while ensuring alignment with the firm's strategic priorities.

Position responsibilities

  • Lead the firm's U.S. thought leadership program across practices and industry sectors, building new process to centralize workstreams. Create and manage an annual content strategy and editorial calendar. Ensure content aligns with firm messaging, brand standards, and business development goals.
  • Champion innovation and best practices in content development.
  • Serve as a leadership ambassador for brand tone of voice (TOV), and the firm's Style Guide ensuring consistency of brand voice across channels. Provide copywriting and editorial coverage as needed.
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and content campaigns and strategies aligned with firm, key practice area and sector group objectives.
  • Partner with Business Development, attorneys, and practice leaders to identify market opportunities and industry trends for proactive thought leadership strategy.
  • Oversee marketing campaigns, including project management, budgets, and external vendors.
  • Manage digital strategy team, including website, social channels, SEO initiatives, and digital user experience.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting metrics to measure marketing and thought leadership effectiveness and return on investment.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop team members. Oversee external freelance resources as applicable.

Experience, skills, and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of proven experience in marketing, communications, content, or journalism required, preferably within a legal, professional services, financial services or other complex business environment.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to a firm office with ability to come into the office 3-4 days per week.
  • Demonstrated success developing thought leadership and content marketing programs.
  • Experience advising senior executives, partners, or other professional stakeholders on marketing and content strategy.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, messaging, and verbal skills.
  • Experience managing external vendors and driving accountability against strategic objectives.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, budget and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build credibility across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong business judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations.
  • Willingness and ability to manage time sensitive projects outside of standard business hours when required.

Salary

Illinois based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $162,000 - $215,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
New York based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $177,000 - $236,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
Washington, DC based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $170,000 - $226,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
