As the Senior Director, Government Payer Relations, you will serve as the executive financial leader responsible for developing and advancing strategies that optimize Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement while supporting our mission to provide exceptional patient care. In this highly visible leadership role, you'll partner with executive leadership, finance, government relations, managed care, and operational leaders to influence reimbursement strategy, evaluate emerging payment models, and maximize state and federal funding opportunities. What You'll Do Lead Government Payer Strategy
  • Develop and execute long-range financial strategies supporting Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement.
  • Serve as the organization's financial expert on Missouri supplemental reimbursement programs, including:
    • Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH)
    • Indirect Medical Education (IME)
    • Graduate Medical Education (GME)
    • Federal Reimbursement Allowance (FRA)
    • Transitional Payments
    • Other state supplemental payment programs
  • Represent the organization's financial interests with Missouri state agencies and governmental stakeholders.
  • Support managed care leadership during Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid Managed Care contract negotiations.
  • Develop negotiation strategies aligned with organizational financial goals and long-term sustainability.
Drive Financial Modeling & Reimbursement Optimization
  • Build and oversee sophisticated financial models evaluating reimbursement opportunities and financial risk.
  • Assess rate adequacy, supplemental funding opportunities, utilization trends, and reimbursement exposure.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of federal and state reimbursement policy changes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance reimbursement performance through financial and operational improvements.
  • Translate complex reimbursement methodologies into meaningful executive insights.
Provide Regulatory & Financial Leadership
  • Monitor evolving CMS and Missouri Medicaid reimbursement regulations.
  • Ensure reimbursement strategies and contract terms comply with applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Support reimbursement-related internal and external audits.
  • Evaluate emerging government payment models and recommend participation strategies.
Influence Executive Decision-Making
  • Advise executive leadership on:
    • Government payer strategy
    • Financial risk mitigation
    • Market and service line expansion
    • Long-term reimbursement planning
  • Present strategic analyses, financial recommendations, and reimbursement performance updates to executive leadership and governing boards.
Collaborate Across the Organization Partner closely with leaders across:
  • Finance
  • Managed Care
  • Government Relations
  • Revenue Cycle
  • Legal & Compliance
  • Population Health
  • Clinical Operations
  • Executive Leadership
Work collaboratively to improve reimbursement performance through enhanced documentation, utilization management, operational improvements, and strategic planning. Champion Organizational Excellence
  • Promote quality improvement, patient safety, compliance, and organizational values.
  • Maintain expertise in healthcare reimbursement regulations and industry trends.
  • Support a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Bring Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in one or more of the following:
  • Government payer contracting
  • Healthcare finance
  • Government relations
  • Reimbursement strategy
Demonstrated success leading Medicaid and/or Medicare financial negotiations Advanced knowledge of government reimbursement methodologies and supplemental payment programs Experience building collaborative relationships with government agencies, external organizations, and executive stakeholders Proven ability to influence executive-level strategic decisions Outstanding communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills Ability to travel within Missouri and nationally as needed Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or similar advanced degree)
  • Experience leading successful government reimbursement improvement initiatives
  • Direct responsibility for Medicaid reimbursement programs and Missouri supplemental payment methodologies
  • Experience working within large health systems or academic medical centers
