The Director of Dialysis and Nephrology provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the health system's dialysis and nephrology service line. This role is accountable for the growth, performance, and 24/7 operations of the system-wide dialysis program, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care that aligns with the Health System's Mission, Vision, Values, and Philosophy. The Director oversees clinical practice, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration while leading the recruitment, development, coaching, and performance management of department staff to achieve exceptional patient and organizational outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates cost savings, expenditure controls, and efficiencies in health care operations. Ability to work within their budgets and productivity targets to meet organizational objectives. Assures there are organized plans in place for selection of staff, evaluation of staff, orientation of new staff, continued education and development of staff, competency evaluation of staff, appropriate scheduling of staff based on patient acuity.

  • Manages by way of a visible leader with exceptional organization skills and outstanding relationship building skills. Demonstrates ability in developing and mentoring staff and colleagues to practice at the highest level of performance. Demonstrates record of success in identifying, recruiting and retaining strong clinicians. Leads by example, consistently demonstrating highly professional behavior. Demonstrates personal and professional accountability and holds others to the same. Demonstrates decisiveness and an ability to gain consensus where appropriate. Ability to align diverse constituencies' needs and expectations that result in win-win solutions.

  • Oversees the daily operations of all dialysis units and nephrology clinics system wide.

  • Possess strong physician relationship skills.

  • Collaborates with Medical Director, Vice President, and other members of the care delivery team as part of the governing body of the dialysis unit to identify, implement and monitor ongoing compliance with Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) requirements.

  • Exhibits knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards. Develops, implements, evaluates and enforces department and system policies, procedures and necessary protocols to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.

  • Leads with a patient focused, strong commitment to delivering the highest levels of quality, safety, and customer service. Is responsible for achievement of patient satisfaction (PressGaney and Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) action plans to achieve targets for their areas of responsibility. Serves as a role model and coach for Critical Moments of Service (CMOS)/Service Excellence Standards and service recovery.

  • Manages with process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement management principles and practices.

  • Demonstrates strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Able to communicate effectively and persuasively with individuals and groups through compassion, creativity, and consistent visibility.

  • Participates in and leads hospital and department committees.

  • Supports the team when needed. May perform duties of care delivery RN when staffing levels warrant.

  • Collaborates with community organizations to enhance awareness and access to nephrology and dialysis services.

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

  • Minimum of 2 years dialysis experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible nursing leadership experience

Preferred:

  • Master of Science in Nursing

  • Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Business Administration; if candidate possesses a BSN, Master's degree in a related field is acceptable.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

PAY RANGE:

$119,940.62 - $191,904.99
