THE POSITION

Are you ready to take your IT expertise to the next level? The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is seeking an energetic IT Network Specialist II who loves tackling system challenges --from networking and data center management to disaster recovery, telecom, and secure communications. The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on managing advanced network operations and supporting complex systems that serve the Pennsylvania Treasury. It involves hands-on work with hardware, security tools, and performance monitoring to keep essential services running smoothly. As an IT Network Specialist II, you will perform the following duties:

  • Hardware Management: Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and network cabling
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance and optimize efficiency using approved tools
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex network, server, and firewall issues
  • System Support: Support telecom systems, videoconferencing tools, and storage networks
  • Security Development: Develop, implement, and maintain network security mechanisms
  • Data Protection: Maintain file recovery and file backup systems

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Mandatory 3 days a week in the office and work from home (telework) up to 2 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Information Technology Generalist 1; or
  • Two (2) years of technical experience providing information technology user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis and network and desktop PC support services; and an associate degree in computer science; management, computer or business information systems; microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology or closely related field; or
  • Four (4) years of technical experience providing information technology user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis and network and desktop PC support; or
  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 18 credits in computer science; management, computer or business information systems; microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology or closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have installed and configured network hardware, such as routers and switches, to ensure reliable connectivity in a professional environment.
  • You must have used network management tools to monitor performance and troubleshoot network issues.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience installing or configuring server and/or network hardware.
  • Maintained file recovery and backup systems in your previous roles.
  • Configured and maintained firewalls to protect network infrastructure from threats.
  • Supported telecommunications or videoconferencing systems to ensure reliable service.
  • Diagnosed and resolved complex network problems using specialized diagnostic tools.
  • Provided user support or consultative expertise regarding network resources.
  • Currently hold a CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification.
  • Actively learning new technologies and adapting to changing technical requirements in your work.
