Overview

Microsoft Security (MSEC) is seeking aSenior Security Engineerwith deep domain expertise to build and operationalizesecurity-first systems that enable safe and scalable AI adoption.

This role sits at the intersection ofsecurity engineering, AI systems, and enterprise readiness, focusing on transforming complex signals acrossidentity, endpoints, data, applications, and infrastructureintoactionable security insights, detections, and automated mitigation workflows.

You will design and buildend-to-end security systemsthat detect, prioritize, and respond to risks in AI-enabled environments-bridging traditional security controls withemerging AI-native threat models (LLM abuse, prompt injection, data exfiltration, model misuse).

You will operate in a highly collaborative environment, driving execution fromsecurity signal ingestion and detection engineering to response automation and governance, helping customers achievesecure AI readiness at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

Security Detection, Investigation & Response Systems

  • Design and builddetection pipelinesacross identity, endpoint, data, and application signals to uncover vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and active threats.

  • Developcorrelation engines and detection logicthat combine multi-source telemetry into high-confidence security signals.

  • Build and operationalizeend-to-end detection validation prioritization remediation workflows.

  • Implementautomated incident response and remediation playbooksleveraging rule-based systems, workflows, and AI-assisted reasoning.

Security Systems & Platform Engineering

  • Architect and buildscalable security platforms and servicesthat process high-volume enterprise telemetry.

  • Developdata pipelines and distributed systemsfor ingestion, enrichment, and real-time analysis of security signals.

  • Integrate security capabilities intoAPIs, services, and platform layersto enable reusable and extensible solutions.

  • Ensure systems are designed forreliability, performance, isolation, and security by design.

Vulnerability Management & Risk Prioritization

  • Build systems to discover and trackvulnerabilities across cloud resources, identities, and application environments.

  • Developprioritization modelsthat incorporate exploitability, impact, and business criticality.

  • Enable workflows that driveend-to-end remediation closure, integrating with engineering systems and developer pipelines.

  • Align with frameworks such asDefender, MDC, ASPMto enable holistic risk visibility and response.

Security for AI Systems (AI-Native Threat Protection)

  • Define and implement controls forAI-specific threat vectors(prompt injection, data leakage, model abuse, adversarial inputs).

  • Build detection and mitigation mechanisms forLLM-based systems, RAG pipelines, and agentic workflows.

  • Embed security intoAI system design, inference pipelines, and orchestration layers.

  • Contribute toresponsible AI practices, governance, and secure deployment patterns.

Data, Telemetry & Observability

  • Build rich telemetry systems to tracksecurity posture, risk signals, and system performance.

  • Develop analytics tomeasure detection effectiveness, false positives, and response outcomes.

  • Leverage telemetry to enablecontinuous improvement loopsacross detection and response systems.

Cross-Company Collaboration & Impact

  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and Security teams totranslate security problems into scalable engineering solutions.

  • Work across a matrixed organization toalign signals, platforms, and response workflows.

  • Help definesecurity readiness standards and onboarding playbooksfor enterprise AI adoption.

Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence

  • Lead design and delivery ofcomplex, large-scale security systemsfrom concept to production.

  • Establish best practices forsecure coding, system design, reliability, and governance.

  • Drivedata-driven and evidence-based decision-makingacross security engineering initiatives.

  • Mentor engineers and elevate the organization'ssecurity engineering maturity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years of experience insecurity engineering, software engineering, or distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience buildingproduction-grade security systems (detections, pipelines, or platforms).

  • Deep understanding ofsecurity domainssuch as identity, cloud security, endpoint security, or data protection.

  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C#, or Java) forsystem design, automation, and pipeline development.

  • Experience building and operatingdistributed systems and large-scale data pipelines.

Preferred

  • 8+ years of experience insecurity engineering and large-scale system design.

  • Experience withsecurity detection engineering, threat modeling, and incident response systems.

  • Familiarity withAI/ML systems and their security implications (LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows).

  • Expertise incloud security platforms (Azure preferred)and enterprise-scale environments.

  • Experience withsecurity telemetry platforms, SIEM systems, or data lakes.

  • Proven ability to operate inambiguous, cross-org environments and deliver end-to-end systems.

  • Strong ability to communicate complexsecurity and system concepts to technical and executive stakeholders.
