Telecommunications Project Specialist - Transit Construction

Location: Manhattan, NY
Schedule/Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM
Pay: $50-$55 per hour

Job Summary
The Telecommunications Project Specialist will support capital construction projects within a transit environment, providing field coordination, construction oversight, and project support for telecommunications and communications systems. This is an onsite, field-heavy role with approximately 65% of the work performed at project locations, including Right-of-Way and track environments. The position requires close coordination with contractors, designers, engineering teams, user departments, and maintenance groups to ensure construction activities are completed safely, accurately, and according to project requirements.

Job Responsibilities



  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Monitor and coordinate telecommunications construction activities in the field.
  • Supervise and provide direction to contractors and track construction progress.
  • Inspect work in progress and identify deficiencies, field conditions, and potential construction issues.
  • Coordinate resolution of field conditions, interdisciplinary conflicts, maintenance concerns, and other project issues.
  • Serve as a liaison between contractors, designers, engineering personnel, maintenance groups, and other project stakeholders.
  • Track project schedules, budgets, technical services usage, and potential impacts to the critical path.
  • Coordinate and initiate General Orders and work performed under flagging and Right-of-Way requirements.
  • Prepare daily field reports, punch lists, inspection documentation, and other project records.
  • Conduct pre-final and final inspections with contractors and trade groups.
  • Develop estimates and assist with scope changes and change orders.
  • Support telecommunications and communications systems, including CCTV, fiber and data networks, PA/CIS, electronic access control, Video Management Systems, and Physical Security Information Management systems.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 3 years of relevant project management, construction coordination, or construction oversight experience.
  • Experience coordinating or supervising engineering, construction, architectural, telecommunications, or similar technical projects.
  • Experience with telecommunications or communications infrastructure deployment, preferably in a construction or transit environment.
  • Experience working with contractors, reviewing construction documents, inspecting field work, tracking schedules, resolving field issues, and preparing project documentation.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in active construction, transit, and Right-of-Way environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently in both office and field environments.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred at the time of submittal and required before performing wayside work; certification must remain current.
  • Ability to successfully complete required track safety training before working on or near the wayside.
  • Ability to provide and wear compliant safety work boots.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as project requirements dictate.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Data Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field; or
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Data Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field plus two years of related experience.

  • This is a fully onsite, field-oriented position with no remote or hybrid option.
  • Approximately 65% of the assignment will be performed in the field at transit project locations.
