About UC Blue Ash

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is one of the largest regional colleges in Ohio, providing an accessible pathway to higher education for students from all backgrounds. The college is located fifteen miles north of the main uptown campus, on 135 acres in a park-like setting. We offer primarily associate degrees in career and transition programs, as well as general education courses and technical baccalaureate degrees to approximately 5,100 students. The Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science (MPCS) has 31 full-time faculty members, including six teaching physics. Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (MPCS) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Physics, intended to begin August 15, 2027.

Expectations for this position include consistently effective teaching, incorporating pedagogical strategies to improve student learning, and contributing to the advancement of teaching through professional activities.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Teach physics courses as assigned by the academic unit head. These courses may include, but are not limited to, Concepts in Physics, Introductory Physics, Algebra-based General Physics, Calculus based College Physics, Introductory Astronomy, Sustainable Energy and associated labs. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Instructors are required to teach in-person classes, which may include evening courses. Some classes may also be offered with online, hybrid or hyflex options. Class sizes normally range from 15-30 students.
  • Engage in professional activities that support the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College's mission and vision, including its commitment to excellent and accessible, student-centered education and exceptional teaching, innovative scholarship, and service. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, physics and/or physics education research, participation and leadership in professional organizations, attending and presenting at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and publishing works based on research and/or creative activities in peer-reviewed journals. Examples of creative activities include the design of instructional materials and demonstrations, innovative approaches to introducing physics concepts, and laboratory and hands-on experiences.
  • Participate in service or assignments which contribute to the goals of the Department, College, University and/or Community Service such as, but not limited to, serving on committees, evaluating/supporting student and academic activities, and professional service based on expertise.
  • Use the university course management system (Canvas) and other relevant classroom technologies.
  • Hold regular office hours to meet with students.
Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of the appointment, all of the following are required:

  • Master's degree in Physics, Physics Education, or a related field.
  • One (1) academic year of experience teaching Physics or related courses at the College/University level, which could have been as a teaching assistant, adjunct, or full-time faculty.

Salary Information: $64,000 - $72,000, dependent on the candidate's experience.
