Senior Primary Therapist - RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, our Senior Primary Therapist becomes part of a purpose-driven environment where compassion, clinical excellence, and patient-centered care create meaningful opportunities to support adults and families on their mental health journey. This Licensed Clinician role offers opportunities for professional growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a trauma-informed culture committed to safety, healing, and continuous improvement. As a Licensed Clinician, you will play an essential role in delivering evidence-based behavioral health services, developing individualized treatment plans, and partnering with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to promoting resilience, recovery, and emotional well-being across the adult lifespan. Joining RWJBarnabas Health means joining a community where every Licensed Clinician is encouraged to grow, contribute, and make a lasting impact.

A typical day for a Licensed Clinician may include:

  • Providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy to adults primarily in an outpatient setting, with occasional coverage in partial hospitalization as needed.
  • Conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments, gathering detailed patient history, evaluating current functioning, and identifying complex treatment needs through clinical interviews with adult patients, families, and significant others.
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, and documenting individualized interdisciplinary treatment plans that support adult patient recovery goals and clinical progress.
  • Delivering crisis intervention, case management, outreach services, and mental health consultation to promote adult patient safety, stabilization, and continuity of care.
  • Collaborating closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members to provide coordinated, trauma-informed care.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, discharge documentation, and medical record completion.
  • Participating in weekly clinical supervision, multidisciplinary case conferences, and collaborative treatment planning discussions to ensure high-quality adult patient care.
  • Supporting the education and development of future behavioral health professionals by participating in training opportunities and providing clinical oversight to interns when appropriate.
  • Pursuing ongoing professional development through continuing education, evidence-based training, and organizational resources while contributing to customer satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives.

This role might be for you if:

  • Compassion and empathy guide your approach to caring for adults and families experiencing complex behavioral health challenges.
  • You are committed to providing trauma-informed, patient-centered care that promotes adult healing, autonomy, resilience, and long-term recovery.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills enable you to develop effective treatment plans and respond confidently to changing patient needs in adult care.
  • You communicate effectively and build trusting therapeutic relationships with adult patients, support systems, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Collaboration is central to your practice, and you enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary adult behavioral health team.
  • You value professional growth, clinical supervision, and lifelong learning as essential components of your career.
  • You maintain professionalism, organization, and attention to detail while balancing documentation, patient care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide high-quality behavioral health services to adults and families in a supportive, trauma-informed environment.

To be considered for this Licensed Clinician opportunity, you will have:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, Psychology, or a related field, or a PhD/PsyD in Psychology required.
  • Current New Jersey LPC or LCSW license required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Previous experience providing behavioral health services to adult populations in an outpatient setting is preferred (experience with partial hospitalization is a plus).
  • Proven competence in advanced adult clinical assessments, therapeutic interventions, crisis management, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary care team while maintaining a commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate patient care.
  • Per Diem Day Shift: Scheduled 2 days per week, Monday through Friday, with a schedule of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on one day and 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the other.
