Job Summary:



The candidate is expected to take a major role in projects in the Staab-Weijnitz laboratory focusing on lung injury and regeneration. The major responsibility of the Postdoctoral Fellow position is to carry out all aspects of animal procedures, including working with experimental disease models and exploring potential preventive/therapeutic approaches. The work will include induction of lung injury, application of potentially preventive or therapeutic molecules, lung function measurements, in vivo imaging, bronchoalveolar lavage, animal sacrifice, and tissue harvest for scoring of disease progression in these animals. The candidate is expected to perform sample preparation and downstream analysis including preparation for sn/sc/bulk RNA-Seq and proteomics, immunofluorescence stainings, flow cytometry, and gene expression analysis. The candidate is furthermore required to work in close association with technicians and graduate students in a supervisory role, including training in the use of equipment and procedures and overseeing the progress of experiments conducted by others. The candidate will be expected to present regular research-in-progress lectures to various groups within the University and to write postdoctoral fellowship grant applications

.Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:



  • Transgenic animal management and genotyping (5%)
  • Animal experimentation including induction of lung injury and fibrosis and application of potential preventive or therapeutic molecules (20%)
  • Lung function measurements, in vivo imaging, bronchoalveolar lavage of experimental animals (15%)
  • Animal sacrifice and tissue harvest from experimental animals (5%)
  • Preparation of precision-cut lung slices from experimental animals (5%)
  • Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence stainings (10%)
  • Microscopic imaging, confocal imaging, and image analysis (10%)
  • Gene expression analysis such as immunoblotting and qRT-PCR (10%)
  • Bioinformatics analysis of RNA-Seq and MS/MS-based proteomics data (20%)

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Bachelors of Science (BS) or equivalent degree in Biochemistry, plus a completed Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is required in the field of Medical Science, Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Sciences, Toxicology, Lung Biology, Physiology, or other relevant field.
  • Experience: A clear evidence of a productive graduate experience in lung fibrosis/ILD basic science research.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Excellent communication skills as demonstrated oral presentation at national and international conferences, such as the American Thoracic Society or European Respiratory Society.
  • Experience in holding formal or informal leadership roles.
  • Experience with extracellular matrix biology and lung regeneration science
  • Experience with lung toxicology models (in vivo, ex vivo or in vitro)

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$56,484- $67,500

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
