Job Summary:



The Marist College Teacher Education Department seeks candidates for the Program Director and Professional Lecturer of Teacher Education to begin in the fall 2025.

This position provides coordination for the advanced certification Master of Science in Education (MSED) in Contemporary Curriculum & Instruction Program. This program is offered in two delivery models: as part of our in-house 5-year accelerated program, or in an online asynchronous 16-month program. This is a full-time position with a 24-credit teaching load; 12 credit release for administrative responsibilities.

We are excited to announce the opening this fall (2024) of the fully renovated Dyson building which houses our state-of-the-art Teaching Methods Lab with adjoining Maker Space and separate Curriculum Resource room.



Minimum Qualifications:



The successful candidate will have teacher certification, teaching experience in P-12 schools, and a student-centered approach to preparing future educators. A doctoral degree in education P-12 or a related field from an accredited university is required. Applicants should be able to model culturally responsive pedagogical approaches across all courses and foster inclusive classroom environments.



Essential Functions:



Administrative Responsibilities:



  • Recruits and interviews all students for both the 5-year program and the online program.
  • Advises all candidates in the MSED program.
  • Maintains positive relationships with P-12 partner schools.
  • Hires all part-time faculty associated with MSED.
  • Provides orientation for students in MSED program.
  • Recommends MSED students for certification; remains current with relevant NYSED regulations.
  • With support from the Assessment Coordinator, maintains assessment system for MSED program.
  • Addresses student concerns that arise in the MSED program.
  • Creates and staffs schedule of courses each term.
  • Oversees Capstone Project development and assessment (current portfolio format).


Lecturer Responsibilities:



  • Teaches 12 credits (2:2) in undergraduate or graduate courses associated with the MSED program.
  • Serves as faculty advisor to students in the MSED program.
  • Participates in department, school, and faculty plenary meetings
  • Engages in professional activity, as relevant to the position
  • Participates in open house events



Preferred Qualifications:




  • At least 3-5 years of classroom teaching P-16
  • At least 3 years of administrative experience in a teacher preparation program.
  • Expertise in curriculum development

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:



The Teacher Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with the departments of Psychology, Crime & Justice Studies, and Social Work. The Teacher Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade add-on teacher certification, and (3) a 5-year MAT adolescence education program, grades 7 - 12, with dual certification for students with disabilities in eight content areas (English, math, social studies/history, biology, chemistry, earth science, Spanish, and French). The department also offers an advanced master's degree (MSED) program in two delivery models: as part of our in-house 5-year accelerated program or as an asynchronous online 16-month program.
