Our large oil and gas client is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer/Content Developer to support the transformation of its current training program for technicians into a unified, competency-based, enterprise-wide training system. This global initiative requires the design and development of engaging, technically accurate, and translation-friendly training materials that align with a defined competency framework.
This role involves owning both the instructional design and the full content development of eLearning and instructor-led training materials, including narration scripts, screen text, learner prompts, and assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing materials and align training content to the approved competency framework developed by the learning analyst
- Design instructional strategies and define content structure, sequencing, and learning approaches appropriate for technical learners
- Write and develop full instructional content, including narration scripts, onscreen text, activities, knowledge checks, and assessments
- Create detailed storyboards with proposed visuals, voiceover scripting, interaction logic, and accessibility considerations
- Author all content using translation-friendly writing practices, avoiding idioms, cultural references, and ambiguity to support global delivery
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), QA reviewers, and stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy and alignment to competency requirements
- Maintain version control and high levels of quality, accuracy, and consistency across all training materials
- Ensure content is clear, concise, and accessible for both native and non-native English speakers

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in instructional design and content development for adult learners, with a focus on technical or operational audiences
- At least 2-3 years of experience designing and developing training for the oil & gas industry or a closely related sector (e.g., utilities, petrochemical, industrial manufacturing)
- Proven experience writing and developing instructional content for eLearning and instructor-led training (ILT), preferably in technical domains
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, engaging, and learner-centered content
- Demonstrated ability to write content optimized for translation and global use, including tone neutrality, consistent terminology, and reduced ambiguity
- Experience creating training for technical and safety-critical roles (e.g., field technicians, operators, maintenance personnel)
- Expertise in adult learning principles, curriculum design, and competency-based education
- Proficient in Articulate 360 (Storyline)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Word
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, iterative development environment
- A strong portfolio of instructional design and writing samples is required

The pay range for this is $55.00 to $60.00 per hour W2. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, relevant education, certifications and specific work location.
