The Salvation Army Orange County's Anti-Trafficking Services provides human trafficking survivors in Orange County holistic care through trauma-informed, culturally-and linguistically sensitive, strengths-based, and survivor-centered case management and advocacy.

Position Summary

The Residential Support Advocate (RSA) is responsible for monitoring resident activities and ensuring their compliance with Safe Home program rules and conditions. The RSA ensures the safe custody and accountability of all residents while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly facility.

Pay Rate

$20.00/hr. - $22.00/hr.

Essential Functions

This position description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this position. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position description.



  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, friendly and cooperative atmosphere within Thatiana's Home and with residents to promote a clean, orderly and healthy environment at all times.
  • Regularly conduct checks of bed areas, outside grounds and common rooms; ensure that residents are involved in program activities or otherwise productively engaged with their case plan.
  • Distribute hygiene items, clothing, towels, linens and other essential items; ensure Safe Home is kept clean and that residents participate in cleaning efforts (e.g., bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen)
  • Support and assist residents in developing/implementing life and social skills plans that will further their independence, increase their community involvement and improve their quality of life. Encourage adherence to plans.
  • Monitor resident and house activity to ensure safety (e.g., curfew); assess and respond appropriately to resident behaviors, attitudes, and dispositions. Contact 911 in emergency situations.
  • Maintain contact with other agencies and case manager as needed to ensure coordination of services to residents; assist with program referrals and intake process.
  • Transport participants to meetings, appointments or other locations as required.
  • Secure and distribute resident medications as needed.
  • Maintain and update all logs, case notes, required documentation, vehicle use log and any other forms of record keeping in a timely and accurate manner, including the proper storage of such documents. Complete other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Lead resident process and support groups; help residents with daily routines, meal preparation, and schedules as needed.
  • Promptly and accurately report resident issues or concerns to Case Manager and/or Program Manager as needed.
  • Attend staff trainings and department meetings as needed; complete other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Some college in related field to social work or psychology and two years of experience performing social service work preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the social work field including client assessment, case planning, management, and referrals.
  • Fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Deep commitment to the healing and well-being of human trafficking survivors.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Driving Test and clean MVR check (Driving Required).
  • A criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed, culturally and linguistically appropriate service provision strategies.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention counseling.
  • Administrative skills in computers, record keeping, and organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Bachelors of Social Work (preferred)
High School or Equivalent (required)
Experience
2 years: Minimum Experience Performing Social Service Work. (preferred)
