Job Description

Position Overview: The Business Support Specialist I plays a vital role within the Registrar's Office and serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, and community members. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of university policies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to assist customers effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Provide accurate information regarding Registrar's policies, procedures, and university regulations to students and the community both in person and over the phone
  • Student System Navigation: Assist students with inquiries related to the student system, Joe'SS, ensuring they can efficiently access their information
  • Request Processing: Handle and process certification letter requests, name changes, address updates, and Change of Major forms
  • Advisor Coordination: Coordinate the collection and distribution of advisor reports for various departments
  • Administrative Support: Sort and distribute office mail, file documents, and manage imaging of student records
  • Front Desk Operations: Accept and process various forms submitted at the front counter while ensuring compliance with university policies
  • FERPA Compliance: Understand and apply the principles of FERPA in handling student records and information
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other related tasks as assigned to support the Registrar's Office and enhance operational efficiency

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in navigating student information systems
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Working Conditions: This position will require interaction with a diverse population and may involve working in a busy office setting

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Office experience and experience in higher education and PeopleSoft Student Records is preferred
  • A great personality, willing to learn attitude and a flare for helping is necessary for this position
  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of the educational system and be a quick learner with regard to the software used. Candidates should be able to complete work with minimal directions and will be required to abide by University and campus policies
  • This position will require some weekend hours
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.00-$16.02 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
