Position Summary: The Academic Advisor MSW Online program will provide academic advisement to students in the MSW Online program option. The Academic Advisor MSW Online program will work with the Associate Dean to assist students with their plan of study, barriers to registration, and processing leave of absence or withdrawals. The Academic Advisor MSW Online program will oversee referrals to student services, faculty, or other Yeshiva University services to resolve student issues. The Academic Advisor MSW Online program will also work directly with the Registrar's office staff. The Academic Advisor MSW Online program will prioritize student retention and support to students with provisional admission, on probation, or in danger of failing.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support students with provisional admission, on probation, or in danger of failing
  • Assist students to follow and update their plans of study/roadmaps
  • Provide advisement meetings as needed/requested prior to registration each semester
  • Provide academic advisement to students in MSW online program


Work with the Associate Dean to resolve unique plan of study issues:



  • The need for an Independent/Direct Study
  • The need to resolve an incomplete grade
  • Student requests to substitute courses
  • Student requests to transfer credits
  • Student transfers to and from other Wurzweiler program options
  • Student comportment issues
  • Academic struggles/risk of dismissal from the program


Intervene when a student encounters a barrier to registration:


  • Refer students to appropriate unit(s) when they have a hold on their account


Monitor course registration numbers and decide if:


  • If the advisor needs to request that the Associate Dean add more sections of the desired course
  • If an over-tally is permitted (based on enrollment) request approval from that course instructor
  • Work directly with the Registrar's Office staff to resolve barriers to registration
  • Process student requests to audit a course (requires Associate Dean and instructor's signatures)


Assist Students with:


  • Processing a Leave of Absence or Withdrawal from school
  • Accessing Yeshiva student services
  • Referrals to the appropriate staff/faculty to address questions or resolve issues


Refer students to the Associate Dean who express dissatisfaction with:


  • A course
  • An instructor
  • Practicum Placement
  • Registration Process
  • Services from other departments (Office of Disabilities, Office of Student Finances, etc.)


Learn and use the Yeshiva Success Network/Starfish to:


  • Manage and track student information
  • Evaluate degree requirements
  • Facilitating completion of requirements for advanced certificates


Experience & Education Background:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of administrative experience are required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.


Skills & Competencies: This position requires the following skills:


  • Adept interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to generate professional correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to quickly learn and become proficient in new software and technology.
  • Well-organized, flexible
  • Ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, acting proactively, resourcefully and efficiently
  • Maintain confidentiality of documents and information.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills


Salary Range: $65,000 - $65,000
