Purpose of Job This casual position is responsible for the delivery of anesthesia services on an individualized patient care basis through the nursing process assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Standards of Nurse Anesthesia Practice as defined by the medical center and Minnesota Nurse Practice Act. Job Functions
Performs a thorough and complete pre-anesthesia assessment, obtains informed consent for planned anesthetic intervention.
Formulates a patient-specific plan for anesthesia care in cooperation with attending MDA.
Monitors the patient's physiological condition as appropriate for the type of anesthesia and specific patient needs.
Ensures complete, accurate, and timely documentation of pertinent information on the patient's medical record.
Assesses anesthesia care to assure its quality and contribution to positive patient outcomes.
Aides in the completion of the departmental managerial duties as assigned.
Performs capable airway management i.e. endobronchial intubation, difficult intubation techniques, emergency response measures including CPR, meconium stain and RMC Emergency Preparedness Program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Continuously updates current anesthetic knowledge concepts and skills including age specific indications
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
- Able to incorporate RMC policies within scope of practice
- Utilizes effective communication skills and professionalism in interpersonal relationships with patients, families and other members of the health care team
- Fosters a learning environment for customers, RMC employees and students
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota
Nurse anesthesia certification and current recertification
BLS, ACLS completion must be obtained at the first offering after hire
PALS certification or completion within one year from date of hire. Current employees PALS certification or completion within one year from 6/2024.
