Reporting to the Executive Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director will support general Human Resources related activities and programs, including but not limited to recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compensation and talent management. The incumbent will deliver a full range and scope of human resources services and ensure the implementation of best practices for human resources policies and procedures that align with New York Tech's institutional mission and values.

In conjunction with HR colleagues, the Assistant Director also will serve as a trusted advisor to managers, support employee concerns, manage employee and labor relations, provide coaching and counseling, guidance to management on progressive discipline procedures and participate in investigations as well as other initiatives as outlined by the Executive Director.

New York Tech is in the midst of transitioning to Workday, and this Assistant Director will demonstrate continuous effort to improve HR operations and streamline processes as we embark on this transformation. The Assistant Director will work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service to all employees and will be an integral part in building partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees. This is a unique position within the organization to help drive various institutional initiatives including hiring and retention.



Responsibilities

Recruitment:

    Using a data-driven approach, support attracting, developing and retaining faculty and staff.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding for new faculty and staff hires and develop recruitment initiatives that foster diversity and inclusion.
  • Support diversity and inclusion practices and actively engage with campus partners and various campus committees to develop robust outreach initiatives.
  • In conjunction with the hiring department, support a comprehensive onboarding process for all new employees.
  • Support program for administering visas to foreign national hires.
  • Manage adjunct hiring and onboarding.

Employee Relations:

  • Support various employee relations matters and perform investigations, as needed.
  • Coach and counsel department heads and employees on navigating complex workplace issues, coach on conflict resolution tactics, and support mediation of workplace conflicts as needed.
  • Manage sensitive and/or critical issues that pertain to people and related matters.
  • Resolve multifaceted problems or concerns by working across the institution and gathering information and insight

Talent Management:

  • Work collaboratively across the institution and build relationships with deans, managers, faculty members and various stakeholders.
  • Proactively engage with institution leaders on people strategy, workforce planning and organization design and structure.
  • Act as an effective change agent in an environment of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Serve as a resource to the campus community and provide guidance and expertise in the field of human resources.
  • Provide employees with coaching and development strategies.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities in conjunction with assistant director of training and development.
  • Enhance organizational effectiveness, drive talent strategies, and contribute to the achievement of New York Tech's vision and mission.
  • Present actionable recommendations for consideration to significantly improve overall HR processes and drive effective HR solutions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Masters preferred. Preferred fields of HR, IO Psychology, Business or Psychology.
  • SHRM SCP/CP and/or HRCI certification preferred.
  • 5 years of overall HR experience required.
  • Higher education or non-profit institution experience is preferred.
  • Workday Core HR functional experience required.
  • Prior experience with a union and non-union workforce and understanding of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Solid understanding of a client-facing, HR business partner service model.
  • Strong consultative, negotiation, analytical and influencing skills.
  • Superior relationship management and communication abilities.
  • General business acumen including working knowledge of strategic planning, marketing, finance, and operations management.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute quickly, effectively and consistently.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion and collaboration in dealing with others at all times.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Confidence interacting with leadership teams and employees.
  • Strong communication skills - written, verbal, persuasion, motivation, facilitation of strong working relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, analytical/problem solving, problem management, presentation development, presentation, and communications skills.

In compliance with local legislation as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, the annual base salary range for this position is listed. New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.



Minimum Salary

USD $70,000.00/Yr.

USD $80,000.00/Yr.
