You are welcome to join our energetic team with mix of experienced and young engineers and colleagues from diverse nationalities around the world. The Mechanical Plant Design team (TPM) is part of engineering at HVDC, with the mechanical responsibilities for our HVDC Projects on a global scale. We are currently around 120 employees working within TPM operating from 5 countries. We work closely with design teams and collaborate with engineering and research team in Sweden and abroad.

This role will be within TPM's Raleigh US team and reporting to the NAM manager. Among many things you will be responsible for securing quality in project documentation, driving continuous improvement work, spreading knowledge from project lessons, and mentoring colleagues in HVDC plant mechanical design. This is a senior lead position where you, a long side your design team, will be responsible for the mechanical deliveries, budget, and ensuring quality for your project.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to be in the office at least 4 days.
  • Guide and mentor your design team towards the project deliveries, according to the current time plan.
  • Being familiar with the design principles, guidelines and applicable standards used within electromechanical plant design of HVDC stations. And ensure that it is followed.
  • Evaluating, selecting and applying standard techniques and procedures to perform Station layout design, building requirements inputs to civil designer, installation drawings and detail design of steel support, connectors, insulators etc.
  • Providing technical support for installation and commissioning activities for the HVDC projects under execution.
  • Preparing purchase documents, bill of materials and be part of supplier evaluation/selection for switchyard material.
  • Preparing project documentation and demonstrating effective interaction with customers, suppliers and contractors to achieve his/her scope of deliveries.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards and mitigation of potential risks.
  • Demonstrating advanced knowledge in NX to ensure CAD activities, 3D-modelling in parts and assemblies in different levels, 2D-drafting for drawings and layouts are delivered on time and meet quality standard.
  • Preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours etc.

Your Background:

  • Experience in mechanical plant design for HVDC stations, 8+ years. Previous experience and background within high voltage plant design. This position requires you to have long experience working within a HVDC station.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Experience in leading mechanical plant design for at least 2 HVDC stations, preferably within the NAM (US, CA, MX) region.
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • A high level of self-motivation, curiosity and desire to learn about new technologies.
  • A collaborative, solutions oriented approach, and strong communication skills.
  • Advanced experience in 3D-Modeling and preforming 2D-drawings/layouts in NX/TC.
  • Experience in leading NX courses and training colleagues on the software.
  • Experience in mentoring junior and senior engineers in HVDC mechanical design to support growth and development of the local team.
  • Experience with supporting internal processes and implementation of best practices in HVDC mechanical design to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and standardization and modularization of structures
